Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

His feet pat the stone path way softly, leaving a small echo behind him. The moon and stars shone over head, leaving a dim trail for others to follow, but they only led others to their doom. Bright street lamps lighted his way, like a scent a beast follows when hunting his prey. This night would not be a normal night, tonight would not be filled with happy dreams and and loveing kisses. No hugs and sweet good byes. No tonight was owned to the damned, a vengence brought to them by their ancestors. Tonight would be full of blood and death, sorrow for those who were stupid enough to seal their fates. Chaos had arrived, cloth in shadow and armed with hell itself. He was here, with a mission of death, a messenger of the Abyss.

No lights were on in the buildings, doors were shut and locked and path ways were clear. He strode at the same speed the whole time, only slowing when he arrived in front of a great white house. Plants growing in its yard, a metal grate fence enclosing its land. But nothing was safe from Chaos. The gate was nothing, a simple snap broke its chain allowing death itself to enter there home. A growing shadow encompassed the door, its timbers snapping under the force of the demons fist. The loud crash woke all four members of the house hold, four dark elves. A Mother, a Father and their two sons, all condemd by fate. Chaos waited as the mother came down first, war club in hand. The father was seconds behind, only to find his loving wife dead, war club sunk into her skull. The two boys stayed upstairs, being saved from the scene of their father being ripped to fourths, the eaten in a most unpleasent way.

He wasted no time on the young lads, sparks flicker in both his eyes and hands. As Chaos made his way out of the house he sent fire balls hurling into its depths. Furniture and walls were scorced, the house going up in flames. Screams and moans lifted from the house and the surronding houses. People flocked out to witness the house going up in unholy fire. People rushed to drench it, but the fire was growing to fast for such weak waters to dismiss it. Chaos walked, a wicked smile spreading over his blood stained face. He passed by crying women, exhausted children and angry men, all who would have stopped him if they knew. But chaos was unseen, a simple ring hiding who and where he really was. To everyone the murders who unknown, commited by a unseen force...By fate.

But to Chaos...These deaths had been done by a god!

Acrid smoke filled the air as Aiden approached the burned husk of what was formerly a home. One he assumed was happy...and peaceful. But now, all that remained was smoldering embers and the smell of burned flesh. It was a sickening sight, made even more miserable by the otherwise still and beautiful night. The moon shone benevolently above the gruesome scene, blissfully unaware of the evil deed that had been done beneath its soft light.

There were no witnesses and even fewer explanations of what had happened, at least, explanations that were plausible. Almost an entire neighborhood is out and about trying to help, but no one has a description of what happened, Aiden thought as he approached the remains of the burned house before him. As he came close, the smell visibly shook him to the point where he had to use a piece of thick cloth to cover his nose and mouth. After pausing for a few moments in a respectful silence, Aiden walked towards the piles of smoldering ash and crouched down.

The fact that this was no natural fire was obvious to anyone who had ever dealt with magic. Aiden quickly noted the odd scorch patterns on the few remaining timbers of the house, patterns that a naturally burning fire simply couldn't make. From the stories I've heard tonight, there were also multiple points of origin, almost all of them coming from windows near the front of the house. Which means someone likely threw or launched something into them, starting the blaze. But for what purpose? Why would someone commit such an act?

Aiden had already learned of the family of dark elves that had once lived here. Though there was no love lost between woodland elves and their darker cousins, by all accounts this was simply a peaceful family who had escaped the underdark to come to the unequaled magical beauty of Cascadia.

"They escaped that hell just to enter this one," the elf muttered sadly, rising to his feet and exiting the scene. A crowd of people were still huddling together opposite the burned home, some crying, some looking about in shock. Clearly, a vicious murderer had come to pay Cascadia a visit. And from this seemingly random attack, it didn't look like anyone would be safe from this murderer's wrath.

Why can't people just live in peace? Aiden wondered for what seemed like the thousandth time. Shaking his head in sorrow, the elf pulled his cloak tighter around his body and wandered down the avenue, his eyes blazing in a righteous anger. Whatever being had disturbed the peace of this city would pay--Aiden vowed to make sure of it. . .

It was a good night, well for chaos at least. He had succeeded in getting into the city without being caught, and had done his job without any flaw. In fact he got so much enjoyment out of the people’s reactions that he did not leave like a smart person would have. Instead he stood around, just watching people freak and prays, wondering how and why something like this happened. No one saw life like he did. Life was precious, yes he knew that, but life was something to be valued and worked at. To him someone who did not honor their code and respect who they worked for they deserved to die. Much like tonight. Chaos was sent by an unknown force to exterminate a very powerful family of dark elves. Back when the lands were corrupted by evil that elf worked for Chaos and Morgal, stealing information and using against imythess. But since Chaos was de-throned the elves turned, and took a more social life. This was not acceptable.

But the deed was now over, with his job done and the blood of the elves on his hands, it was time to play. He started walking by a large group of people, still hidden by his ring, and shoved a frail looking woman, pushing her into the man that walked in front of her. He let out a small chuckle and headed around the group, to get infront of them. A small patch of bush and shurbery was located on the street corner, and from the confines of his disguise he set the bush on fire. It erupted in flames and sent even more people running and screaming. Now two crowds were forming. One in front of the house, and now one in front of the bushes. People where whispering and talking, saying in was an act of the gods.

In truth it was….

Aiden pulled up the hood of his cloak to cover his face as he pondered his next move. Needless to say, whatever thing had committed the dark deed in the heart of Cascadia was probably still nearby. The elf could detect the distinct scent of blood on the air, something that let him know his quarry had to be close by. Surveying the fruits of his labor, I'm sure, Aiden thought with a grimace. At least I'm dealing with an amateur. Or perhaps just someone who really enjoys their work...either way, they shouldn't be extraordinarily difficult to track down.

Lingering among the crowd, Aiden scanned the ground, looking for any sign of his quarry--footprints, ash trails along the ground, anything that would give the elf some clue of where he should turn his attention next. Gradually, he began scanning the crowd, looking at the anxious faces of those crowded along the lane. None of them looked particularly dangerous and none had the smell of flame on their clothes. While a few of those gathered around did have nervous looks about them, that could easily be attributed to the night's events rather than some sense of guilt.

When this quick search came up with no new clues, Aiden was disappointed, but not horribly surprised. "My luck simply isn't that good, I'm afraid," he muttered, absentmindedly kicking at the avenue cobblestones. Sighing a bit to himself, Aiden prepared to venture farther into the city when suddenly, a loud whooshing sound filled the air. Gasps and shouts rang out as people turned to view a bush which had suddenly burst into flame. Making sure to stay within the crowd, Aiden took a glance in the direction of the spectacle...and immediately recognized the source of the new blaze.

"It must be an omen," came a whisper among the crowd. "Surely this is a sign from the gods themselves." The quiet utterance drifted through the otherwise silent crowd, eliciting a number of agreeing nods.

Aiden resisted the urge to smirk, deciding to let ignorance play its part for the moment. If these people knew what was really at work here, it might cause an unnecessary panic. Might as well deal with this discreetly, I suppose. And by discreetly.... Drawing his hand inside the sleeve of his cloak, Aiden closed his eyes and concentrated, feeling out the heat of the small fire before him. He knew that if something were to happen to this flame, something that another magic user could recognize, perhaps the assassin that had come for the dark elves would show themselves once again.

Let's see what this assassin can do. With a slow breath, Aiden reached out slightly and muttered, "Condraes." As he muttered the spellword, the flames leapt higher, completely consuming the bush in a rush of heat. The spectacle drew astonished gasps as people began to move back from the corner. Aiden moved with them, his body registering shock while his eyes scanned the crowd for any sort of reaction.

Let's see what you look like, you bloody bastard. . .

What a wonderful night tonight was turning out to be. Chaos had successfully killed the family he was here to kill, had a little fun messing with the minds and emotions of the crowd and was just having a great old time. His objective was to kill the damn elves, burn the crime scene and get out unnoticed, but that was no fun to the demon. He much rather would have caused even more panic, killed a few more people and spilt a little more blood in the name of fun. Chaos watched as the crowd grew bigger and bigger, now attracting the people from the house remains to the flaming street block. He backed up a few feet away from the corner and crossed his arms, looking on with a sense of joy and accomplishment. But his night was about to take a very unexpected turn.

Out of nowhere the flames erupted even more, shooting high into the sky and creating a magnificent glow, lighting up half the block with the orange color. To many this was just another act of the gods, something sent to cause even more mayhem amongst the crowd. And truthfully Chaos should have enjoyed the help, watching as more yells and screams echoed out in the night. But he was not at all pleased. The red demons mood dropped for he knew this was not an act of the gods. Someone knew he was here, and knew how to get to him. He tried scanning the streets, looking at faces to see if he knew any of them, He didn’t. Paranoia began to inch its way into his mind. What if another assassin was sent to take care of him once the job was done? Or what if a watchful eye managed to see past his ruse? No matter, he would counter just to show whoever was there that he was not enjoying there presences.

Chaos held his hands up, still hidden by the power of the ring, and caused his extinguish spell to activate. All of the air in and around the bush evaporated, causing the flames to instantly go out, as if sucking themselves into the air itself. After the flames were gone he stopped the spell to keep magic users from sensing that it had been used. Although a skilled mage would have known instantly. He took off in a light jog for the crowd, watching to see if any one reacted differently from the crowd. He was going to find this person and snap their body like a twig. No one messed with Chaos.

Aiden watched the area closely, looking for any telltale sign of the lingering assassin. Do something, come on. The elf struggled to keep his eyes wide and his expression full of surprise, hoping that the act would be enough to deflect any unwanted attention. Just a few seconds later, the flames surrounding the bush suddenly died down, becoming a small pile of ash and burned wood almost instantly.

Impressive trick, Aiden thought, almost feeling the extension of magic through the air. So far, this fight had been confined to a long range fight using random spells. To say the least, Aiden had now had enough. Shouldn't be horribly difficult to set up a field here. Just have to make sure I don't get the timing wrong, otherwise this could go...badly, to say the least.

Abandoning his surprised citizen act, Aiden clapped his hands together loudly and sprinted in the direction of the closest avenue. This assassin would have had to run through the crowd to get out through the other two avenues. And that would have drawn attention. That only leaves one more avenue of escape. The elf was fairly confident that his quarry was trying to escape--few fighters would simply stand around when they had an unseen adversary.

Visualizing the spell, Aiden drew what magic he could deep inside himself and threw his hands out, finishing his incantation as he did so. "Myr tandros!" he shouted, thinking clearly to himself as he shaped an anti-magic field around his body and extending it throughout the crowd. Aiden smirked, feeling fairly confident that he would be able to trap his unseen quarry within the field's invisible confines. I have fifteen minutes, Aiden thought, drawing his longsword, And they don't have magic. This should be fairly simple.

Almost instantly, a previously unseen foe appeared jogging through the growing crowd of people. Aiden smirked in victory as he gave chase, eager to see his opponent face to face. . .

He had just entered the crowd, making his way farther and farther away from the burned out bush. He was having so much fun that he had completely left himself open. Anybody could have caught on to him by now, and of course he did not care, but people sometimes went crazy in the name of justice. Chaos was trying hard to keep his disguise but did not want to end the fun he was having. Seeing all the frightened faces and watching people honor him as if he was truly a god. But as he neared the crowd something unexpected happened, something that would send him into a great rage.

As chaos looked down he could see his skin, and his feet beating the pavement. His assumption was confirmed when people started to turn and look at him, giving him nasty looks of disgust and grimace. Someone had deactivated the magic power of his ring, and they knew he was the cause of this mayhem. So he was dealing with someone who had magical abilities also. His spells would be useless here, but that did not bother the demon for he was just as adept in the skill of combat.

Then he saw him, the man who had caused chaos to be seen. He stood just by the crowd wielding a long sword, and was looking at Chaos. With an evil smirk he let out a blood thirsty growl and placed his right hand on the handle of his great cutter, Grievance. Come and get me! You want me? Im ready to spill your blood all over this street! With a great swing he pulled the cutter from his back and smashed it on the ground. Parts of the concrete cracked and smashed, dirt dancing around on the ground. Chaos could not get a clear glimps of the man and was not really sure what he was against, but he would be the victor tonight.

Aiden was somewhat shocked to see his opponent's exposed form for the first time. He wasn't being nearly as conspicuous as I thought at the beginning, the elf thought. Here I was expecting another elf...but this one is clearly a demon! Aiden grimaced, already berating himself for not being able to sense the demonic presence from the very beginning.

The elf continued running, already moving to change tactics as he began to move toward his opponent. In midstride, Aiden replaced his longsword for the heavier holy broadsword strapped to his back. Of course, within this field, the blade had lost its holy properties, but Aiden felt it would be much more useful against the rather heavy looking blade his opponent seemed to be carrying.

"That thing's a monster," Aiden muttered, wondering how on earth anyone would be able to heft it without magical aid. But it's far to slow to be used effectively in close quarters. And demon or not, he doesn't have any spells to help him--as long as I can finish this within a few minutes. So let's see how good he is with a blade.

Come and get me! You want me? Im ready to spill your blood all over this street! The roaring challenge was followed by a loud crash as the demon's great blade smashed into the concrete below. People shouted in terror and began to flee the scene, already realizing that they had no place in a battle between the two fighters.

However, though the people around were frightened and anxious to get away, Aiden smirked in delight as he observed the spectacle. He stopped running, already reanalyzing his opponent quickly. It's as I thought. That didn't look to be the most controlled swing ever...that blade's weight will prove cumbersome once I get close. That way, I can also make sure he can't escape from the field...I just have to make sure to watch out for any surprises in the meantime.

Finally deciding on a route of attack, Aiden charged forward, keeping his blade just behind and to the left as he ran. His feet pounded against the cobblestones as he gathered speed, quickly closing the distance between the two fighters. Confident in his skills with a blade, Aiden brought his sword up in a vicious diagonal slash, hoping to force his opponent on the defensive early. . .

Chaos watched as his target noticed him, even noticing the stature and size of him. Apparently he had misjudges who the invisible assassin was, and was rethinking his attack strategy. As he switch from the basic long sword to a bigger stronger sword Chaos prepared the attack. Sure his great cutter was heavier and would be bothersome in an extremely close battle. But a hit from it would do significant damage to the elf. He lifted the blade up about a foot off the ground and placed it in a semi defensive stance. As his opponent came rushing at his, the sword held in a way as if to attack once he arrived. But all he would meet would be a deadly end to his life.

His targets blade came up in a diagonal slash, most likely aiming to take a chunk from his chest. But his cutter was large, and flat on its sides. So he hoisted it up and blocked the man’s slash, watching the metal scrap metal and the clang ring out. There was not enough momentum for him to counter swing just yet, but right as their blades touch he sent his left leg, balanced from his position, flying at the upper thigh of the elf. His goal was to kick the man off balance, and counter with a swift strike from his blade. His magic and such was useless here, but his thinking and strategy was not. He still had strength and brute force.

He was unaware if the attack landed, but as he kicked out the demon inside filled him with anger and rage. The joy he felt earlier was gone, now filled with temper and anger. He would unleash it on this man in the most vile of forms. Tonight was going to be long, and if his sword skills were not enough to win, they were enough to hold off long enough for the spell to end, giving him his magic powers back.

Nice stance, Aiden thought, but he knew it wasn't enough to counter the slash from the elf's blade. Years of fighting had made him well versed in the art of swordplay...and that made it easy to determine when an opponent was lacking that art. Block, then a kick, then a downward slash, he ticked off mentally, already prepared for his opponent's parry. A metallic clang filled the air as Aiden's broadsword met his opponent's heavier blade. The sound alone was enough to judge the huge thing's weight, a confirmation which justified the elf's earlier assessment. I'll need to stay close after all, he thought as his opponent's kick came, as if on cue.

Aiden spun, slacking his left leg as he moved in the direction of the kick. The force of the blow spun the elf around on his right leg. However, instead of being caught off balance, Aiden quickly completed the tight spin, dancing closer to his opponent instead of farther back. Using the minimum distance between them, Aiden was already bringing his broadsword down in another vicious slash from the opposite diagonal as his opponent prepared his own counterstrike--now rendered ineffective at such close range.

The elf stopped a smile from spreading across his face, certain that the battle wouldn't be over so quickly. . .

So this filthy elf and figured out his counter, like he had expected it in the first place. He was unaware if a magical ability or such allowed this, but then again he should not be allowed to use magic. Unless…Chaos was beginning to get a bit paranoid again, as if some unknown force was keeping him from using magic. His mind was swirling with ideas and thoughts of what might be going on, and if someone else was behind this elf’s actions. Of course this was all nonsense but Chaos, being a mental instable man, did not know this.

He had to get back to the fight. The elf had used his kick to his advantage. Spinning around on the other leg he came around the demons right side and attempted a quick strike. He did not have enough time to react with the cutter, its size playing a bit difficult in this range. But he was not completely out yet. He instantly dropped his cutter, it clang to the stone floor and rattled. He stepped back creating a little bit of distance between the two combatants. As he stepped he drew both letifers. Of course their attacks would not result in the same effect, they were shorter blades better for close range.

With his right one he parried the slash and stepped forward almost immediately, bringing his left hand down on the shoulder of the elf. The blade was aimed for the top of the shoulder, he hoped he could sever that bone and mucle and render that part of the body useless.

OOC: Back!

BinC: When his opponent stepped back, drawing two new blades, Aiden had to admit that the maneuver had caught him off guard. Trying not to give his opponent any satisfaction, Aiden kept his face emotionless. But inwardly, he seethed that for another moment, his quarry had eluded him. Their blades made contact in a quick parry as Aiden noted the location of second blade.

A quick spin brought Aiden out of harm's way as the man's blade tore through a short length of the elf's cloak. Completing the spin, the elf hopped back, moving as quickly as he could out of swordrange. Those aren't normal blades, by the look of them, the elf thought, taking stock of the changed situation. His breath came lightly and nothing ached, so physically, the fight could certainly continue at this pace for some time. But those two blades were a problem--a single slip could result in a fatal blow.

And if I try to fight him with two of my own blades...I'll just tire myself quickly. As much as he hated it, Aiden knew that this fight would only remain magicless for a few more minutes at the most--any more would pose an unacceptable risk.

"Why did you bother killing the elves?" Aiden asked, genuinely curious while he sought to think of a backup plan for this situation. "And to do so at night...why would you kill them in such a cowardly way?" The elf took on a mockingly thoughtful pose as he continued, "Or...were you afraid? Did you know that in a fair fight, they'd easily best you? Is that why you murdered the children too? Because you knew that one day they'd come after you, find you, and exact their revenge?"

The elf was tempted to continue with the verbal barrage, but there was little point now. He had already formed a plan to deal with this opponent once and for all...he hoped. . .

His blade Met with the blade of the elf, his second hand moving at just about the same speed, attempting a second blow. But the elf was quicker than chaos was led to think. He spun around, dodging the blade by about an inch. The cloak was not so lucky, a small cut seared through his attire. With a satisfied grin chaos took a step back to ready for another attack. He was not going to let up, keeping his prey here until his magic ability was restored. As for the physical fight he was holding off well, even if he was outmatched in sword man ship. But he was waiting for the moment when he could spring and catch his prey.

Chaos was not a man to take so lightly, messing with him often resulted in bad things. He hated back talkers, wise crackers and loud people. But what he hated the most were insults to him. And this elf was asking for it badly now. Right in the middle of battle he started attacking Chaos verbally, insulting him and his actions. No one did this, no one. You could attack him and it be ok, but calling him out like that was something he did not let fly. You stupid little elf! You know nothing of me! Your insults are useless when they are wrong you sad excuse for a living creature. He had hit his limit, his hot headed personality breaking loose from his melancholy sense he had before. He lifted his hand again and stepped in for a wild swing, keeping his other arm ready.

Those elves died because they disobeyed a god! They deserved that death for the dishonor and failure they caused. You would now nothing of our business, so stop accusing the innocent! Of course chaos thought he had done nothing wrong, it was only a service to god. Even if to everyone else he had commited the worse crime ever.

Aiden chuckled as his eyes flared in satisfaction. This one was indeed a slave to his own temper. The elf tucked that thought away in his mind as he called back, "A god, you say? Please. A god wouldn't do such a cowardly thing in the dead of night. A god's servant wouldn't have such trouble with a single elf." Aiden smirked as he continued with a mocking voice, "And a god's servant wouldn't have to defend his actions, now would he?"

Letting the insult float for a moment, Aiden sheathed his blade in a swift moment, then clapped his hands together, closing his eyes in concentration. He'd seen all he needed to--it was time to finish this fight for good. "Myr," he incanted softly, his eyes opening slowly as his spell slowly dissipated. The elf could feel magic flowing through him once more as his eyes burned with a red intensity that hadn't been there before.

"For the sake of the people of this city," he said through clenched teeth, "I'm going to have to kill you. You're far too dangerous to be kept alive at this point." With a flourish, Aiden drew his holy broadsword once again, feeling the comfortable weight in his hands as he took a step forward. "If you have any last words, I'd truly suggest you say them now. Because soon, you'll be over matched." With that, the elf sprang forward, quickly closing the distance between the two combatants. Noting his opponent's ready blade, Aiden smirked as a single word formed on his lips. "Shol," he said, blinking from sight just as his opponent's blade started to inch forward. An instant later, Aiden reappeared just a few feet above Chaos's head, his blade already cocked back for a mighty blow as he fell back towards the ground. . .
