Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

A sigh escaped the hood of the half-elemental as his booted feet shuffled over the frosty street. Sebastian was in a particularly poor district of Striberg, not because he lacked the class to enter a richer district, but because he had business in the area.

In the northern end of this shady part of town there stood a pub operated by a friend of Sebastian's mother, but no, Sebastian was never much of a drinker. His cold, enchanted blood was resistant to poisoning, and so alcohol had little effect on him. He was going to the pub for its basement, for, beneath the building he ran a sort of religious organization.

Beneath the pub, Sebastian became Great White, the leader of a small circle of blind fanatics. All of them hoped to give their lives for some divine being in hopes that it would cleanse Imythess of evil, but little did they know that their leader intended to use their lives to gain immunity to mortality. He only needed to make contact with a being capable of making this transition, and he only needed more lives to offer.

He smiled beneath his hood as he neared the entrance to the familiar dusty tavern in the northern end of the district, and he brought his hand to the small stone doorknob. He turned the little handle and pushed the door in, and before stomping some of the frost that had gathered on his boots onto the doorframe, he took a long stride into the pub.

He kept his head low and his hood on even lower to hide his face from the cold. The alchemist hated the north's weather, and the towns specially enchanted heat wasn't enough to keep him from feeling frozen to the bone. With a slow, cold breath he opened the door of the tavern, moving in quickly, and closing the door even quicker.
He lifted his hands to pull the hood of his cloak off, and examine the room. It was rather homey, as far as barrooms went for Leon. He smiled, and gave a slight nod to himself. He was feeling rather happy today, having found some decent samples earlier. The snow was annoying on it's own, but it heeded some of the more amazing specimens of plant-life in the world.

He moved to the bar and gave the bartender a warm smile, speaking in a very soft voice, "Does this bar serve warm tea? and perhaps are you aware of anyone around here who knows of the local flora and fauna? Or better yet, someone who can guide me through the local wilderness?"
He closed his eyes to give the smile he wore a more warm feeling, and he wondered if his face was still showing the slight pang of apathy that it usually did, and was hoping it didn't. Opening his eyes, he was pleased to see he did show enough to trick the poor fool behind the bar.

"..anyone around here who knows of the local flora and fauna? Or better yet, someone who can guide me through the local wilderness?" Sebastian's ears perked up as he hesitated to open the first of several padlocks that kept the pub's cellar door shut. He half-turned his head to catch sight of a man, with little to distinguish him from the rest of the usual riff-raff. He was, however, someone Sebastian had never seen before and he sensed an opportunity.

Ignoring the door, he turned completely and stepped casually to the bar where the man stood. Keeping his hood low and his arms covered, he spoke to the man in a deep, cold tone, thin wisps of steam rising from his mouth. He hoped his cold aura might intimidate the stranger. "I could be your guide," he said, his visage hidden entirely by his hood. "I know the frozen fields out there better than most," he added, "and I could offer you protection."

He hoped to gain the man's trust first, but respect would be of importance as well. Sebastian hoped to be a leader, and he wondered if he could convince this man not only to meet with him, but to be led by him. This would require not simple trust, but faith and admiration, which he prayed he would achieve through aiding him in his unknown quest.

He turned to the barkeep and clasped his dear friend's hand with his own cold, blue one. "Tell them it's called off for tonight. My new friend here is more important."

Leon nodded to the man, not really able to hide the fact that he found the smoke from the man both interesting, and unimpressive. He kept his notes in his head and took a sip from his tea as it was set on the counter. It was a rather lucky day, really, to have found someone who could be of assistance so quickly.
He put as warm a smile as he could on his face, "That would be nice, thank you. However, the protection I'm sure we would both have to cover on our own. The wilderness is dangerous to all, not just to some."

He sat down in the seat closest to him and motioned for the man to sit down, turning his head forward to take another drink. He looked around the bar for a moment to take in the sights of it before responding to what he told the bartender, "If you have business I have all the time in the world, Don't worry about canceling any plans for me. My research is a bit of a life-long journey, you see, so I have some time."

He let his eyes rest back on the man and smiled again, this time some real empathy in it. He didn't enjoy stopping other people's goals, it didn't sit well with him. He finished the tea quickly before taking in a deep breath, "Nothing like some tea to warm you up, hm? I'll be in town for a few days so feel free to clear up any business. I intend to go into parts of the north most people would find nightmarish."
His tone was very cold, and business-like, accented by a cold stare he turned upon the man.

Sebastian chuckled softly, but his voice was metallic, almost unwelcoming. "My father was a part of the north most people would find nightmarish," he replied before glancing back at the door. "But I suppose it is unsafe to travel the frozen expanse overnight."

He casually took a seat next to the stranger, and scanned his face with pale blue eyes. He was a smart boy. Sebastian doubted he would get past his defenses easily. A challenging smile invaded his blue face, but his expression was invisible to Leon. Only his blue chin and a thin pale beard showed under his hood.

Sebastian stared distantly at the stranger, his fingers stroking the thick stubble on his chin and throat. His white lips moved, but there was little thought put into his words. His mind was ticking elsewhere. "I suppose I could go about my business tonight, provided you don't slip away on me overnight. I look forward to working with you," he said, as he absently held out his hand to shake.

"Most know me as Great White, but you may feel free to call me Kieran," he said, formulating a fake name for himself. He preferred to keep his life separate from his religion, but Great White was too impersonal. He wanted his partner to trust him. This would be difficult if he was given an obvious alias.

"May I ask what your business may be, so far north?" he asked as his mind snapped back to life.

Leon didn't stop himself from shaking the man's hand, seeing no harm in it. He noted the oddly cold sensation of it, and made another little bullet point in his head. The introduction was a little formal for his tastes, but it was to be expected, he supposed. With a nod, Leon gave the man his full attention, "I am Dante, a traveling alchemist, scientist, whatever you'd like to call me."

He reached into his cloak and pulled out a pure white flower, it's petals beginning to turn a pale gray color, and it's smell a bit like the sea. Setting it on the counter with a nod, Leon couldn't bring his eyes from it even if he wanted to, "It is things like this that bring me to the north, interesting flowers like this. I intend to discover ways to utilize things like this in my science to create a body that cannot be damaged, or if that is impossible, to create a potion that would make my body invulnerable."

He was being rather frank, but he wouldn't really tell his own reasons. What he just told the man was his master's reasoning for trying to harness human life, and it fit well with plant-life. In all reality he wanted to learn how to harness the wild-life as weaponry, and to a lesser degree, for medicinal reasons. He knew that was much simpler, but the reasoning he gave was more interesting, and would likely give him a bit of assistance more-so then his reasons. Or well, he hoped.

"...to create a body that cannot be damaged..."

Sebastian coughed, nearly doubling over when he heard those words, and focused intensely now on Dante. He brought his hands together and entwined his fingers, wringing his them together slowly and intentionally in his lap as he recovered from his fit. "Excuse me," he muttered before clearing his throat quietly.

"An invulnerable body, you say? Meaning... resistant to sickness, to physical damage... Immune to death, essentially? or, simply unslayable?" His azure eyes glowed beneath his hood, putting off a cold glow as he spoke. He couldn't hide his intrigue, and he hardly realized that he might be coming on too strong. The mention of invulnerability created a tunnel vision effect within his string of consciousness, and he found himself unable to concentrate on anything but.

Invincibility was something Sebastian had sought for years, and that he was willing to sell his soul in order to achieve. His father had been a poor excuse for an elemental, surrendering his immortality so that he could conceive a child with a mortal woman. The notion entirely confounded him. Perhaps he was selfish. He didn't think so.

He preferred to consider himself opportunistic.

Leon's response was rather simple, "Indeed, a body that cannot be slain, a form that would live on forever, using the world's resources to push through the years."
With a chuckle he pulled out three other flowers from his jacket, each obviously being from different climates, and areas then the rest. One seemed to be from a volcanic terrain, another from a simple plain. The last was tropical, borderline alive on the table. He took a moment to nod, tapping a hand over all of them. They were each sustaining some minor life, though they wouldn't likely last the trip through the frozen north.
With a sigh, he ran a hand through his hair, "Sadly I need to learn some things about plant longevity before I can learn that. If I can keep them alive I can find out how to harness their strengths and toss away the weaknesses. There are flowers that can survive volcanic mountains by merely curling in on itself, there are those that can live off of the northern snow, there are others that survive through droughts. And hell, there are even those that can take the slash of a blade. Imagine if all of that was combined into a human body, giving them all the defenses, and maybe even the ability of photosynthesis. You wouldn't even have to eat, just feeding off the sunlight, and the water from the ground below your feet. "
He felt he had explained enough, but he couldn't really help it. He loved his work, and he couldn't help but ramble about it when he had the chance. He knew that as he retracted from the man he had a smile on his face that was borderline psychotic. Removing the unbecoming smile from his face, he nodded his apologies. Slowly, he replaced each flower in his jacket, examining each to ensure there was no damage, and that they were still partially alive. Either way, he would likely have just lost his guide, or he'd have a very zealous one the next day.

"Fascinating..." Sebastian said thoughtfully, keeping his eyes on the flowers long after they were returned to Dante's jacket. Perhaps he could find a similar fashion of attaining immortality, in a different method than he had originally intended. Perhaps he could alter his body, magically or otherwise, in a way that would cause him to become invulnerable, like this perfect body proposed by the man next to him.

Sebastian took a moment, once again stroking his chin, and gazing through Dante's head, into empty space, to consider himself the same way the alchemist considered the flowers, to weigh his own pros and cons, and find a way to eliminate the latter.

Like the flowers of the North, Sebastian could survive the frigid northern climates, the storms; his blood was practically ice water. However, warmer climates caused him discomfort, and occasionally pain, and fire could be his undoing. His elemental heritage granted him supernaturally long life, but his mother's mortality restricted him from living eternally, like his father could have.

The more he thought, the more he realized that essentially every pro was balanced with a con. The scale was imbalanced on neither side. Only further puzzled than he had been before, he took a heaving sigh and shoved the topic into the back of his mind, filing it away for later reflection. Sebastian crossed his legs and leaned back in his seat, folding his hands in his lap and craning his neck forwards. Frosty white breath swirled before Dante's face, slightly sweet with the scent of a cider brewed only in the Striberg, for it was made from a fruit native only to the icy expanses that reach far over the ocean to the north.

"My only questions left are 'when?' and 'where?'," Sebastian said.

The question was rather simplistic, yet to Leon it was one of the hardest questions he had ever heard in his life. If he knew exactly where, or exactly when, he would've solved his issue long ago and not have to trek such an annoying place for answers. Hell, he might be able to have a comforting home in a much more preferable climate, who knows.
With a nod, and a smile he looked to the man. This would be an interesting endeavor, beyond the snow and the cold that would bite him to the bone. He seemed to say it to himself, or the air even, as much as he was saying it to the man before him, "That is a bit of a loaded question, don't you think?"

With a chuckle, he twirled in his seat, putting his chin in his hand and setting his elbow on his knee. All the gears in the young scientists mind were whirring and grinding together. It was so intense, one would think he could hear it himself. He seemed to burst into laughter from nowhere, his eyes watering as he did it.
He lifted his hand to his face and smiled, "At first light tomorrow, if you'll permit. I'll need your guidance, but I can spot a grove that would have ample plant-life to examine. Heh, with any luck we might have part of our answer tomorrow, but I'm afraid I have many more places to visit before I can find a way to make this..."
He cut himself short and looked over himself. His body seemed to frail now that he thought about it. In a fight, Leon knew himself near useless. In the lab, he felt weak when compared to what he worked with. With a resigned nod, he felt something tug at him inside, "We can easily find a way to make the mortal form a little less mortal, I'm sure."
The grin on his face bordered on sinister.

The smile on Dante's face mimicked the one on Sebastian's. He was starting to like this kid. He was starting to like him a lot. His ambition was inspiring, and he couldn't have been far away from Sebastian's age. He seemed studious, and terribly knowledgeable when it came to his area of interest, but then, Sebastian's knowledge of the icy plains was hardly dwarf. Each of them had strong points and weak points, he supposed.

"Wonderful," Sebastian said, another wisp of blue-white steam rising from his hooded mouth. He placed a hand soundly on the bar and raised himself into a mostly standing position. He brushed off his knees, a force of habit more than anything, and from this angle, he didn't doubt that Dante could see his face more clearly. He didn't think about it, but the long scar over his wide nose, the piercing blue eyes, and the patches of white stubble and facial hair that dotted his chin, cheeks, and upper lip were visible for a moment.

"We'll meet at sunrise tomorrow, outside this very building," he offered, before turning and producing a key from his pocket. "I have other business to tend to," he explained, before opening each of the locks on the cellar door individually and making his way into the lightless depths.
