| Like in almost any place where people gather, we, too, have to have rules. Before you enter our forum, please read the terms and conditions below. When you register to this forum, means that you understand and agree to all our Board Guidelines/Rules. If you disagree with our guidelines, you can discuss them with the community. Even if you still disagree, you can, at any time, ask for removal of your account. We also may remove inactive account, those ones without posts (post count has been 0 for an unreasonable time) or ones that have been orphaned (no new posts in an unreasonable time). We are not obliged to contact you in the event of a cancellation. In an event of cancellation of your account, if you wish to have access to the HEF again, you must register again to do so. The only exception to this is if your account was deleted because you were banned. We reserve the right of admission, so you are conscious we will keep a record of your previous behavior inside the HEF.
This is the official place where you can find these and will be referred to in any debate. Aside from this, we also expect you to read any sticky topics and other notices that give an expansion on the rules for a particular subset of the site.
These rules apply to anywhere where there is an interaction between users and the site. This includes, but is not limited to, forum posts, IMs, PMs, news's comments, drawing board, e-mails and so.
Breaking them may result in sanctions that range from a simple warning to permanent banning, as staff will discuss, based solely on the seriousness of the offense.
They are here for the good reason of keeping this place as a nice place to hangout, and for the sake of coexistence, so that's for the good of everyone :3
1. No excessive spamming. A SPAM rush is a banneable offense, that's it, continual and repetitive break of this rule will result in an immediate life-ban.
Follow the next rules to avoid posting SPAM (S+up1d Pointless Annoying Messages):
A) Do not post multiple times in a row on the same topic (flooding). Is better if edit your posts, rather than writing a second one, updating it.
B) Try to stay on-topic.
C) Avoid to re-post existent topic or post multiple times the same topic.
D) Post in the right forum. Speaks for itself, really. Take a look at the list of forums before you post.
E) Don't over quote. Try trimming down your quotes to the minimum needed (only the phrase you want to quote). Also note that if you reply to a quoted post inside the quote, this may not be visible. If you over quote, it makes posts harder to read, so let's keep them tidy and nice to the sight.
F) Make sure your posts don't break the screen. Any post or signature that contains a large number of emoticons or characters in a row without spaces that does things such as causing a horizontal scrollbar to show up, or whose height is excessive, or excessively large images, will be removed. Max width permisible will be 720 pixels. They make it hard, if not impossible to read the site and do nothing more than annoying people.
G) Read the topic before posting. Often, a question asked in the first post has already been answered in longer topics, and you'd just be repeating answers, or perhaps you're only repeating a question already asked by someone earlier. To continue this, take a look at the topics in the forums for an answer before posting a topic asking a question.
H) Use brief, descriptive topics. You can ask the questions you have in the message, instead of asking a long question in the topic name. Also, the topic should say something about the thread, and not just be "Yo!" or "READ THIS!!!" (excluding your introduction topic allowed once, and when you are new here)
I) The information on this web site is not infallible. Mistakes can be made. Information about facts is believed to be correct at the time of posting, but we cannot guarantee. If you submit information, try to post only true facts, but if you are uncertain, stat that fact too.
2. Keep your Signature at a reasonable size. The maximum size we will allow will be a screen height at 1280x1024, that's approximate to 60 lines. People visit to read messages, not to look at long signatures. If you are not to sure if your signature complies the rule above, you can ask a staff member.
Also, any images that cause a login box to popup, or have very large dimensions will be edited. In general, use common sense, also when posting images on the forums. Keep them Low Bandwidth Friendly, so they will not take too much time to load on slow PCs or ones with Dial-Up connections. Note that this means that BMP files are almost never good to use, because they are enormous. In general, they are not usable for publication on the internet anyway; use a compressed format such as GIF or JPEG instead.
Please, avoid using another's people bandwidth (bandwidth stealing and/or Hot(Direct)linking), as that can piss them. It's more correct if you use your own web space, like an Image Hosting Service.
If you fail to follow this rule, Staff has the complete right to edit your signature and/or images. Repeated offense will be considered SPAM also, because you are wasting the time of people who doesn't have a quick internet connection.
3. Do not insult people, start flame wars, or anything similar. We want to keep the forums the friendly place they are. That includes that people should be able to participate without the fear of being insulted needlessly.
Therefore, don't fight with other members or keep it to a minimum. Don't start flame wars or fights, and also, don't continue them. You're making things just as bad then.
To summarize, be nice and treat people like you'd want to be treated.
4. Keep any content you post suitable for all members on the site. We want our forum to be suited for the same people who can enjoy Hamtaro. As such, keep anything you put in your messages suitable to everyone. That means no porn or hentai, no language unsuitable for them, and more. Feel free to apply a bit of common sense here.
No swearing. Posts with swear words and/or foul language will be deleted or edited immediately. Censoring is used to disguise bad language until it's removed, it is NOT an excuse to swear.
5. Don't post about illegal or unethical things. Also, you shall not post about hacking HEF, Invisionfree or any other place (even just kidding), nor will you attempt to do so using your HEF account.
6. The admins and mods are (almost) always right. We don't just give mod rights to someone, but we try to choose people who are trustworthy, show that they know and follow the forum rules, and that they will moderate this unbiased. That means that they will know what to do at almost any time, that no staff members will abuse their powers, and when they're not sure, they'll contact people who can help them in such a situation (usually one of the admins who also do moderation work on the forums). This means that they will rarely, if ever, do something wrong, and that it's no use sending them angry PMs about it. Only if you're really, absolutely sure you should contact him, do so in a polite PM while giving the name of the topic, the forum, and if the topic is still there, an URL. Only if this does not give you a clear reason you should contact an admin.
7. No begging for staff positions. Only the Head Admin can decide who will get an staff position (Moderator, Global Moderator and Co-Admin) and who won't, and asking will not help you.
We have to choose between the ones who know enough about the rules and have the patience to wait for it, and someone who doesn't know them and keeps bugging us about it.
Also there are high chances that we don't need more staff, but if that's not the case, the Head Admin will contact the candidate we choose to see if he accepts the position, and no otherwise.
8. We wouldn't like to see club wars. Not like other sites similar to this has witnessed before.
Any posts about groups, clans, teams, clubs or whatever, outside of Clubs section are forbidden. We don't want a war between them just because they don't agree. Also, any identifiers about them in titles or nicks should be kept to a minimum, and any war starting over/about them are completely forbidden.
9. Respect the staff and members of HEF. Following all the rules exposed here are toward promote respect between all members of this community. Observe the Netiquette as in any place of the Internet, research it on a search engine like Google or ask a staff.
Also, regarding to staff members, observe the following:
A) Report posts if they break a rule. Don't play mod and tell people they're doing something wrong, that is the job of the moderators. Instead, use the "Report" button at the top of the post, and we'll get notified about it, and one of us will check it out and do something about it.
B) Do not report posts without a reason. Every time you report a post, an email is send out to all the moderators of the forum. Now, that's not such a bad thing if it's for a reason, however, expect to annoy a number of people if you report a post for no reason, to ask a question, or to insult someone. That's not what the button is meant for, and expect problems from it if you do so. This also includes the number of times you report it. Once is enough, anything more than that will only fill up our mailboxes sooner than is necessary, and may even result in us not looking at it at all!
C) Don't tell the mods what to do. We can decide ourselves what should happen with a topic, you don't need to do that. If needed, just tell us that there's something wrong, and we will make our own decision.
D) Read twice what you're about to post, one from the Point Of View of another member. If you see it may hurt the feelings of somebody, don't post. We know bad things happen occasionally, that maybe you are having a bad day. Please remember we are here to help you. The staff is committed to our members, but they are not obliged to listen to you if your manner is insulting.
E) Remember that the staff is here to help to raise the cohabitation between members. We must do that by keeping members behavior close to the rules, promoting a nice mood with our example (attitude-aptitude), SPAM Control, threads moderation, help the newbie and provide members with assistance when needed.
F) Shall a staff or member fail to follow one of his/her responsibilities (stated by this rules), and he/she will face consequences derived from their acts, regardless of position.
G) If you have a question regarding to any of the previous rules, feel free to talk (via PM) to a staff member to dispel your doubts. You're in your complete right to know your rights and obligations here.
10. Last but not least: HAVE FUN!!! This is your place where to meet new friends online, those with who to share interests and hobbies. A forum where you can hangout, as like the clubhouse is for the Ham-Hams. So you can help a lot if you keep your behavior close to the rules, making everyone and your experience on HEF a nice one.
So, welcome to the Hamtaro Extreme Forums! We wish you a good time here ;)
Signs,
The Hamtaro Extreme Forum Staff
(HEF for short)
