Defeating the munchies

I've been doing so well this week following hunger signals. But today after lunch around 1:00 I had just this urge to crunch. I got the munchies and didn't know what to do. I have a desk job and since I'd just gotten back from lunch, I didn't want to go take another walk. I'd brought some Cheerios and 94% fat free popcorn to work with me. So I had healthy stuff at my desk. I did eat the items and although there weren't a lot of calories eaten, I feel like I should have resisted.

Any ideas for what I could have done differently?

Sounds like you did the right thing - if you're going to eat might as well make it healthy, right? :bravo:

I also have a desk job. I like to keep some flavored rice cakes at my desk for a quick snack. I also keep not only water but caffeine free diet coke. A few swigs of a soda can be satisfying for me.

While I find that resisting is ok sometimes, I also see nothing wrong with filling your urge if making a healthy choice and not overdoing it.

Most importantly, pray about what you should do. Well, for what it's worth those are my suggestions. Mike

hi cap!
i think the only thing you did wrong was wonder if you did anything wrong!! lol! what i mean is, after you've satisfied your urge, you should relax and take it easy on yourself...you COULD"VE eaten potato chips or donuts! so what you did was excellent!
the only other thing i could suggest before you eat when your stomach isn't exactly hungry but you have an appetite is to drink a big glass of water w/ ice, maybe even two of them...or drink a cup of coffee if you do drink coffee. Also, if i'm experiencing appetite increases, sometimes actually doing something so so simple as taking a vitamin makes it go away. i guess it's because your body is really craving vitamins (usually our bodies only really crave good stuff, but in our minds we want junk), and when i get that vitamin in, i really do notice a difference with appetite control! i take ONE-A-DAY multi-vitamin. so make sure you take a multi every single day! but i think you did great :goodjob: :goodone: :bravo: :praise: :water: :super: -Katy

I too think you did fine. Maybe some sugarless gum would help if it were not hunger just chewing you wanted to do.

Okay, I won't be too hard on myself. I do believe that I am doing really well. Everyone seems to be newly motivated.

I think you did a great job! You munched on healthy stuff .. and you can't starve yourself because that will just make it worse. I agree with Mike33 about the diet soda..for some reason even if I have one glass it tends to give me what I was craving and help me hold out till the next meal. Keep up the good work! :)
