Devotions for Dieters A 365-Day Guide to a Lighter You April 15 Ephesians 4:22 . . .put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts. Fat people aren't bad people. Sometimes we feel inferior just be-cause we happen to be overweight. It doesn't matter whether we're a few pounds over weight or a lot of pounds overweight; when we're too heavy, it makes us feel bad. Obesity isn't a sin in itself, but often it is the result of sin. Gluttony, sloth, laziness; these things can lead to obesity, and they are sinful behaviors. When we decide to put off these wrong behaviors, we set ourselves on the path that pleases God. Change takes time, but the rewards are always worth the effort. Today's thought: There's more to a new me than just losing weight. Very good post. As a minister of the gospel, I really feel an added pressure to set a good example before other Christians in taking good care of myself physically. I think I have failed in this area, but I know I am heade back in the right direction. It's amzing to me how many of the preachers in my denomination are fat. We preach against drugs, alcohol, tobacco use, etc., but IMHO gluttony is no different. An addiction is an addiction is an addiction. |

My body weight did set me seeking to understand addictions because I felt inferior. Admittedly it didn't take much to do that because the scale told on me, but I do know we all have a sore spot. Just glad mine isn't pride. Maybe we choose our addictions? I wish mine did not show so much physically. |

what denomination do you belong to tim. i agree with you about gluttony, and so many christian events are based round food. and it can be very hard for us. and a lot of socializing is about food , like going to the cinema , going out to dinner, picnic,. god delivered me from alcoholism 12 years ago but this addiction to food is so much worse for me. love rosie :rbanana: |
