Not Your Strength

And the Lord, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed. Deuteronomy 31:8

These were the words of comfort and truth Moses gave the Israelites shortly before they crossed into the promised land. He knew he would not be there to strengthen and encourage them. so he tried to assure them ahead of time. God is always with us and at the same time He goes before us to fight our battles. God doesn't lose nor does He leave us stranded. God brought the people of Israel through the desert forty years (a lot longer than they planned, but they were slow learners) and He never forsook them even when they turned on Him.

It is no different with us. If you've been in the diet desert a lot longer than you would like to, maybe it's because you have not been ready to step over into the promised land of God's normal weight and eating for you. Perhaps you've been a bit rebellious and have not learned to trust Him enough. Don't give up. We have God's assurance that He is with us and will prepare a way out for us. God knows before you sit down at the table what kind of battle will be waged and He is faithful to offer you a battle plan if you only ask. No enemy is too great, no temptation too strong, that God can't handle it for you.

Suppose you are down to your correct weight and are on the threshold of entering the promised land, but are afraid once you get there you'll blow it. What should you do? The same thing you did while you were in the desert places. Lean on the Lord because only He can give you power over temptation. Don't depend on your own self-discipline and will power to win. If you do,you'll lose sooner or later (most likely sooner). Purpose in your heart to call on Him before you give in and you'll not fail.

Father, teach me all I need to know while I'm in the desert. Don't let me out one second early because I don't want to go back again. I know fear is not from you, and I will not be afraid of any temptations or tests because I know you are both with me and have gone before me to prepare my victorious battle plan. Thank you, Lord, that you are with me in the desert and in the promised land, so that I can enjoy my freedom from gluttony and the blessings of a new life.
