From "Slim for Him," by Patricia B. Kreml The Promise is Ours That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises. Hebrews 6:12 We are called to walk in the same patience and faith that our forefathers from Abraham until today walked in if we are to obtain the promises of God. We cannot manipulate God; He doesn't work that way. If we are to receive from Him, we cannot be lax in our Bible study, prayer life or practical application of the biblical principles we've learned. There is no shortcut to being in God's perfect will and growing in Him. One of the hardest things for us to learn is patient waiting for the fulfillment of God's Word to us. We diet day to day and it's often a long time before we ever see any weight loss results. This does not mean that God is failing us. He will provide in due time, but until that time our faith must stand in the place of what we've claimed for ourselves. If we have claimed temperance as ours, we must daily continue to eat in moderation believing that one day it will be a natural part of our lives because it is God's will that we be temperate. If we continue to eat gluttonously, being impatient for God to provide temperance, it will never be ours. The Word says we are to follow the example of those who have gone before us who through their faith in God and patinece obtained the promises of God. We are the examples being set for the generation to come; therefore we must do everything according to God's Word. In this way, we show by example how the promises are fulfilled and how God is faithful to His Word. Father, I know your Word is true and good. In the natural I'm stubborn and impatient, but by faith I can overcome these things. I will walk in your will and wait patiently for you, believing by faith that you will do even as you have said. I thank you and praise you that I know this is true. |
