Temperance

One old boy who had a problem with alcohol donated his liver to science. A few weeks after his demise, his widow received a letter from the medical institution. "Dear Madam, we're returning your husband's liver. We appreciate the thought, but we're not that desperate!"

There are many reasons why alcohol and dieting aren't a good mix. Never mind that many alcoholic beverages are high in calories. Alcohol is a detriment to your dieting initiative because it attacks your center of control: your mind. The battle you face in losing weight is more about mind-control than body-control. Self-control, discipline, self-denial, and perseverance---these are your weapons in the war on weight. You have made a decision to add discipline to your eating routine. Alcohol always hurts the pursuit of discipline.

Actually, alcohol isn't a good mix with anything. But it's especially a bad mix with dieting. Temperance and discipline are natural allies. Saying "No!" to alcohol will make it easier to exercise self-control, in other areas---like fettuccine Alfredo for instance.
