From "Slim for Him," by Patricia B. Kreml

As Jesus Walked

He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
1 John 2:6

For years we've said we're walking with the Lord and abiding in the vine, but our very appearance and habits said that was all a lie. We were no more abiding in Him than the heathens. Why? Because we were not walking as He walked, as we are called to walk. We lived in gluttony, greed, obesity, depression, and defeat. This certainly does not describe the walk Jesus walked.

When we heard about Christian weight control, we were excited because we could foresee the freedom and good health (as well as slim bodies) it could provide. But did we consider that we should have been eating and living that way all the time because it is part of walking as Jesus did? Did we realize temperance is for the skinny as well as the fat, the healthy as well as the unhealthy?

We need to learn to judge every thought, action, and deed according to the standards that Jesus set. If it is not in line with what Jesus would have done, we shouldn't be doing it. For instance, Jesus didn't live in sickness. Since obesity is a disease, we should have no part of it. It is not a Christ-like way to live. Greed, gluttony, compulsive eating are all contrary to the will of God and the way in which Jesus walked, and should not be a part of our lives either. Jesus lived in victory; so should we. In all things we must abide in Him and live even as He did. It is important that we become slim and healthy. It is more important that we make our lives conform to the example set by Jesus simply because we love Him and desire to live for Him and please Him.

Lord, keep me ever mindful that my thoughts and actions must be in line with the Word. If I am to become like Jesus, I must walk in the same way in which He walked. Gluttony, greed, fatness---those are not Christ-like, and I will not have them as part of my life. Help me to grow and mature in my walk, Lord.
