From "Slim for Him," by Patricia B. Kreml Vain Philosophy Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world and not after Christ. For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power. (Col. 2:8-10) This Scripture cautions us to be very careful not to fall into the trap of man's philosophy and put ourselves into bondage. We are to function on a spiritual plane. Unless we do, we can very easily fall victim to the foolishness of this world. We are to take care not to be involved with those who seek to explain all problems and situations away by psychology and intellectualism. There are many books today on diet that state that the problems are psychological, and proceed to offer solutions accordingly. These methods never reach down to the root problem of sin and disobedience to God. Then there is the modern school of thought which basically claims to "affirm" and "support" the compulsive eater, by trying to convince him that he's really "okay" and that he should love himself (and others should love him) just the way he is. This teaching says there's no need for weight or dietary change because the person is beautiful as he is and should be content with himself. This philosophy is contrary to the teachings of Jesus and God's Word. It encourages the sins of gluttony, greed, vanity, pride, and idolatry. We are to avoid this way of thinking. If we are to remain in God's will as Christians, we must face our sin and know that we are nothing without Him. Unless we are willing to give up our sins of gluttony and greed, He cannot and will not help us. Unless we are spiritually minded in all things, we cannot walk in victory. We are called to separate ourselves from worldliness and to guard against vain philosophy. Unless we avoid them, we will once more be in bondage. Lord, the world is full of people saying the mind is the answer to everything, but I know my mind is just a creation of yours. Help me to avoid those who would try to use psychology and vain deceit to put me into bondage. I am free in you and wish to operate my life by faith in you. Thank you, Lord, for warning me of the problems of worldliness. |

...[..... the world is full of people saying the mind is the answer to everything,] This would only be true IF I have given my mind over to God. Then 'my mind'- God's mind - is the answer to all things. But if I am still trying to do it on my own, if I think I am right the way I am doing it, then my mind will crash and I will fall. I can't do it without Him, My mind must be His mind. This becomes my prayer also..... 'Lord, the world is full of people saying the mind is the answer to everything, but I know my mind is just a creation of yours. Help me to avoid those who would try to use psychology and vain deceit to put me into bondage. I am free in you and wish to operate my life by faith in you. Thank you, Lord, for warning me of the problems of worldliness!!! Amen!' |

I recall this, "Let all men be liars but God be true." Digest the Word of God daily, and as it is promised, "The mind of Christ dwell richly within you." Angelic, your prayer matches your walk completely. |
