From "Slim for Him," by Patricia B. Kreml Confide in the Lord But the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord: he is their strength in the time of trouble. And the Lord shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him. Psalm 37:39-40 Have you noticed since you've been on a diet, losing weight and having success in the Lord's plan, that some of your best friends have become some of your worst enemies underneath? Fatties and gluttons like to stick together to make themselves feel better about what they're doing. When one of the "rank" gets on God's bandwagon and starts walking in victory, the others are envious of his success and inwardly disgusted with themselves because they are still living the same old way and waddling around fat. Sometimes the friendship is severed completely, but many keep up the pretense of friendship and set out to help you make the first fall. Then they can say, "I knew it wouldn't work. There isn't any help for us." Now this may or may not be a conscious effort, but either way the end result can be the same if you fall for the bait. The Word says your strength and salvation is in God. When you're in trouble, call on Him. Don't go to a "friend" for help when you're tempted. Most friends will convince you that one little indiscretion is okay. But you'll hate yourself for it afterwards. Go directly to God. He'll give you the correct advice and the strength to carry out that advice. When you trust in Him, He'll save you from the trap your "friends" set for you and minister to them at the same time. They will see that God has worked a miracle in your life and that there is hope for them also. Trust in God no matter what He asks you to give up. He'll give in return----something twice as good. Father, I need your strength today. Make me strong in you so that I can resist whatever wrong food is offered me. Remind me that I must choose between you and the item tempting me, and I choose you. I trust in you to both deliver me and witness to my friends, who need your deliverance so much. |
