From "Slim for Him," by Patricia B. Kreml Lean on the Lord Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the Lord will be with you. (2 Chron. 20:17) Have you been fighting the "battle of the bulge" and losing it? Do you keep asking for God's help and still fail? Perhaps you've been trying to work it out yourself, and that's why you haven't won. Have you been looking to your diet for weight loss? Have you been looking to your own self-discipline for self-control in eating? Have you been looking to certain foods as good for health and still feeling poorly? If the answer is yes to any or all of these questions, then you're trying to win the battle yourself. You must realize it is more of a spiritual battle than a physical one. Of course, the outward problem is physical, and certain physical measures must be taken to remedy this. However, the true problem is lack of control and discipline of the appetite because of attempts to do things without God being in control. Satan is there to see to it that you remain in the same "diet trap" just like a yo-yo---you lose, then gain, then lose. Just when you think you have it made, a small, gluttonous thought enters your mind and your break because it's just between you and the tempter, you aren't allowing God to fight. Of course, we have to do our part, but how wonderful to know that when we're losing and can't go on, we can stop, stand still, and see the salvation of God as He wins a battle we know our flesh never could. If you're a loser today, call on God; then when the tempter comes, stand back, yield the situation to God, and rejoice in the victory. Father, I realize now that I've been trying to do it all myself, and that's why I've continued to fail. Lord, I confess I can't do it and I call on you to win the battle for me. I'm standing back Lord; show me your excellent salvation! |
