Order dressing on the side. "One should eat to live, not live to eat." ~Moliere Reduction An obviously overweight man asked the waitress for extra salad dressing for his fried chicken salad. Noticing the look of disdain in her eyes, he said, "Don't worry, Miss; I'm going on a 'skippy' diet tomorrow." "You mean you're just going to eat peanut butter?" "Oh, no," the dieter assured her. "I mean I'm just going to skip everything that tastes good." Dieting takes some "skipping." You don't necessarily have to skip everything that tastes good, but you will have to make careful food selections. Reduce your intake of certain substances---mainly fat. One place to start is by reducing your consumption of salad dressing. Salad dressing is a "sleeper" source of fat; it doesn't seem fatty, but it is. It's deceivingly beautiful, meandering in colorful little rivers over your lettuce. But it can be as ferocious as a tiger, crouching down below the rim of tiny plastic cups, waiting to pounce on your food and turn it into future flab. Make a healthy choice. Order your dressing on the side. That way you control the amount you consume. |
