Do we see the cup as half empty or half full?

If we expect our cup to be always filled to the brim, we may think we never
have enough. If we focus on what's lacking in our lives, we will feel
deprived. If we look at what we have, we will experience satisfaction, even
if everything is not positive.

We choose how we will live--whether we will dwell on the negative or savor
the positive, bemoan what we don't have or rejoice in what we do have.

Insisting that our cup should always be full may have played a role in the
development of our problems with food. With recovery comes a more balanced
perspective. We are learning to avoid the trap of all-or-nothing thinking.
We are discovering that it is possible to be satisfied with the good things
we have, even if some things still seem to be missing. The more clearly we
see how much we already have, the more contented we feel.
