From "Minute Motivators for Dieter's," by Stan Toler Eat slowly. "I don't eat snails. I prefer fast food." ~Strange de Jim Rhythm It's called "fast food," but that doesn't mean you have to eat it in a hurry. A meal is not a race. There's no gold medal for being the first to finish your fries. There isn't a Hamburger Hall of Fame. And Mr. Guinness, of the Book of World Records, probably doesn't eat where you eat! Many people eat too quickly. They chomp the chalupas like their visa is going to expire any minute. Eating too fast is just another symptom signaling that we've pushed the fast forward button of life and can't find the pause. Our stomachs are usually about two bites behind us. But the fast eating will ensure one thing: Sooner or later, our stomachs will catch up---and overtake us! Find the rhythm. Slow down. Sit down. Chew your food carefully. Savor it; don't inhale it. Eating at a slower pace has several benefits. First, you'll enjoy the food more. Second, you won't be as likely to overeat. Third, your digestion will likely improve. Eat less and chew more. Eating is important to your health. Take the time to do it right. |
