From: "Slim for Him," by Patricia B. Kreml Looking Back And say thou unto the people, sanctify yourselves against tomorrow and ye shall eat flesh: for ye have wept in the ears of the Lord saying, Who shall give us flesh to eat? for it was well with us in Egypt therefore the Lord will give you flesh and ye shall eat. Ye shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days, nor twenty days; but even a whole month, until it come out of your nostrils, and it be loathsome unto you; because that ye have despised the Lord which is among you, and have wept before him, saying, Why came we forth out of Egypt? (Numbers 11:18-20). The Lord will never force us to do what is good for us and often allows us to go in the path of our own choosing, so we can learn how wrong we are. Here God had been feeding His people from heaven out of His love and desire to care for them. No one was going hungry, but the lusts of the appetite came into play, and the Israelites blew it again. Now, they wanted meat to eat and even wished they had never left Egypt because of the food there. Food became more important to them than God, their freedom, or anything. Have you been feeling this way? Are you tired of your diet and the restrictions on the food you can eat? Do you long for your "Egypt" (the captivity of compulsive eating) because you never had to worry about how much you ate and could fulfill any desire you had? If the answer is yes, don't hate yourself; it is only a temptation just like any other. If you do not entertain the thought, it will vanish. God has given you a diet because it is good for you. And God is so good, He gives lovely fringe benefits like weight loss, better health, healthier skin, more energy, etc. You can't lose with God. Don't go back into bondage for a ham sandwich or a hot fudge sundae. Whether you like it or not, you have a clear choice to make. When you choose, everyone around you will know whom you love most. Be a witness for God and He'll bless you more than eating a hot fudge sundae ever could. But what if I don't choose God? Well, most likely you'll get what you asked for and then some, and won't like it or yourself very much afterwards. God gave His people quails to eat and they gathered them for several days and stored them for eating. And there was a plague in the camp because of their sin, and many died. The place these people were buried was called Kibroth-hattaavah, or the graves of desire, because their lust (appetite) caused them to sin. Of course, the Lord's prophecy was fulfilled and they ate quail until they were literally sick of it (for God held back the manna). With us it is no different. If we finally break our word to God and head for the refrigerator, we don't just eat one sandwich like we told God we would. We eat two sandwiches with everything on them, with potato salad or cookies on the side, and then drink a diet soda just to feel justified. How foolish it is to try to fool God. But that's only the beginning. We really get going with it and head out for an afternoon snack (all afternoon)---a bag of candy here, ice-cream there, cake and coffee (black of course, we're watching our weight) at a friend's house (some friend), then comes dinner, and so on. By the time bedtime rolls around, we're either vomiting or wishing we could and we feel sick to our souls because we know we've failed our God, family and friends, and ourselves. That's when we realize that our "Egypt" is not all we remembered it to be. It was sin, shame, and slavery. God, when I'm tempted by the old life of gluttony and I start asking you to make some small concessions, please say no and remind me of the quails and the Israelites. Remind me what a life of gluttony is really like. Remind me of all the nights I was sick to my stomach or just too stuffed to move, let alone enjoy family and friends. Forgive me for ever considering going back into the bondage of gluttony. Thank you, Lord, for leading me out of "Egypt" and setting me free. |

I didn't even get to the end of the message....Had to stop and say------Thanks!! This is a Great Post!! Think about it for a moment....God gave me/you the eating plan to follow..... IF it is followed -- He gives such fantastic blessings..... the last line here says it all .............without Him I/you have trouble losing--and most of us can't lose at all..........with Him I/you can lose the weight....and add the blessings that come from that.....well, then ...even if it sounds like an oxymoron. ....YOU CAN"T LOSE WITH GOD!! :agree: ... :agree: |
