From "Slim for Him," by Patricia B. Kreml

The Spirit is With You

Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. John 14:23

This concept of loving God and showing it by keeping His Word is expressed in John 14, and each time a different "treat" is added by Jesus. Here, Jesus says if we love Him, He and the Father will come to live in us. Of course, we know this is in the form of the Holy Spirit, and we receive him into our lives at salvation.

Because the Spirit lives in us, He also is always with us, even when we are sinning. Do you realize that the Spirit is right there when you sneak that scoop of ice cream? He's there when you cheat on your diet. He's there day and night. When you open the refrigerator and when you eat that cookie, He is there. How sad He must be at those times; how disappointed He is that we don't reach out to Him for help.

But there's more to it than that. The Spirit is there also when you say no to the ice cream. He's there when you stick to your diet and suffer the pains of temptation. He's there when you open the refrigerator and pick up a carrot instead of a cookie. He's there for all those victories and His joy is sweet because you are showing your love for God!

Which thought is more pleasant and satisfying to you---His joy or sorrow? Which result do you really want to be responsible for? As you face each new situation daily, be conscious of the fact that the Holy Spirit is right there with you. He is there because Jesus and the Father love you and sent Him. With that thought in mind, what could any food really offer that would satisfy?

Father, I've known your Spirit was living in me since I was born again, but sometimes I've forgotten that He is present. I can't hide when I sin, when I cheat on my diet. Your Spirit is there, and I ask you to forgive me, in Jesus' name. I'm glad He's living in me and pray I will bring Him only joy. Remind me of His presesnce daily, that I might act accordingly and solicit His help when needed.
