From "Minute Motivators for Dieter's," by Stan Toler

Eat half as much and twice as often.

"Hey diddle diddle
I've a bulge in my middle
And hope to whittle it soon,

But eating's such fun
That I won't get it done
'Til my dish runs away with my spoon!"
~The Royal Neighbor

If dietary discipline is a problem, six small meals would be better than three lingering trips around the buffet table. You know that your auto's carburetor controls the flow of fuel to the engine. Too much fuel at one time will stall the engine and leave you stranded in front of that nice man with the red face and bulging eyes you see in your rearview mirror. The carburetor knows that a little fuel at the right time is better than a lot of fuel all at once.

Good nutrition is delivering the right amounts of food fuel to your body. The "when" and the "how" of eating are just as important as the "why" and "where." It's been suggested that eating smaller meals more frequently is better than consuming large amounts two or three times a day. In other words, don't overfill your gas tank.

Eating larger meals will make you feel bloated and will probably cause you to eat more than needed. Pare back the portions, but step up the rate. Six small meals are better than three large ones.
