"Inner Harvest" Hazelden Meditation Series Recovery's challenge--learning to love. Excess food won't make us happy. Neither will excess dieting. We need real, live people to satisfy our emotional hunger. And they're all around us--in our families, at school, at work, in the community. First, we acknowledge that we need people: a box of cookies is no substitute for a friend and neither is a "perfect" day, when we restrict our eating to a single salad. Then we take the risk of opening up, of becoming vulnerable, of giving time, care, and attention to someone else. One of the nice things about loving is that we don't have to do it perfectly to reap benefits. Even a little love makes a big difference in how we feel. Another nice thing about love is that through our Higher Power we have access to an inexhaustible supply. The more love we give away, the more we get back. * Learning to love invites my full attention. I may not do it perfectly, but today I can deepen my commitment to those whom I love. |

Today, right now, I pray to deepen my commitment to those I love--and to love -through Christ, - those I haven't loved in the past, in the present, and in the future. I will look at them through the eyes of God--and love them because He does. [Learning to love invites my full attention. I may not do it perfectly, but today I can deepen my commitment to those whom I love.] |
