From "Slim for Him," by Patricia B. Kreml

The Lord Preserves

The Lord is righteous in all his ways, and holy is all his works. The Lord is nigh unto all that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth. He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry and will save them. The Lord preserveth all them that love him: but all the wicked will he destroy. My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord: and let all flesh bless his holy name for ever and ever. Psalm 145:17-21

Did you ever accuse the Lord of not being fair? Well, you know He really isn't! That's right, nowhere does the Bible say that God is "fair"; it says He is righteous and just (among other things) but fair is a word that we've invented out of our selfishness. Fair is no substitute for justice or righteousness and we should be glad that it isn't one of God's terms. If God was "fair' with us (by our definition) we'd all have been annihilated a long time ago. God combines justice and mercy and so deals with us.

No matter what you REALLY deserve today, if you need God and come to Him in a spirit of confession and repentance, He will be there. The Word says that if you call on Him in truth (you really mean what you ask), He'll hear and save you. If you've been on an eating binge, gained ten pounds and are distraught, that's a pretty legitimate time of need. Assuming you really want His help out of the whipped cream and cookies and into the clean path of His will, call to Him and His mercy will save you. If He were fair, He would leave you in your candy-coated mire, but He's merciful and will help you back to where you should be.

The Word says that God preserves us. Now everyone with a sweet tooth knows about "preserves." What are they? Usually fruit that has been prepared to keep a long time. Well, God preserves us; He keeps us from rotting and going bad. How sweet are His "preserves," His people!

Preserve me Lord. Keep me in your protection. I strayed and missed the mark, but I'm back in truth, and desire the fulfilling sweetness of your way. Restore me, Father, in Jesus' name.
