"Inner Harvest" Hazelden Meditation Series If food isn't the answer, what is? We know what we don't want to do: we don't want to be trapped in compulsive patterns of behavior that are harmful and that prevent us from functioning at our best. Knowing this is a big step forward in our recovery, but it isn't everything. We still need to figure out what we do want to do. When we're eating normally and not trying to make food solve our problems, our real needs and desire eventually surface. When we're sincerely seeking to think and act in harmony with our inner self and with the God of our understanding, we begin to find answers that satisfy us in a way that food never did. For me, the answers revolve around love and work. When I am functioning well in these areas food is not a problem. When I look for direction from a Higher Power and do the best I can to follow that direction, both love and work are satisfying. * I am grateful to find answers to my deepest needs. |

This is sooo true! My greatest temptations are during times of stress and boredom - both times I should be looking outside myself (at Him) instead of trying to fill myself. Eating a donut will take about a minute - but then the stress and boredom will still be there for the duration. If I ate my way through all my minutes of stress and boredom, I'd be lost! I must fill that God-shaped hole with God! :) |

Compulsive behavior patterns, indeed! Come, Lord Jesus and break the bonds that bind us. Amen |
