From "Minute Motivators for Dieters," by Stan Toler Establish your personal values. "The world has forgotten, in its concern with left and right, that there is an above and below." ~Glen Drake Standards "What floor?" the polite young elevator operator asked. "Thirteen, please," an elegantly dressed lady answered. "Do you have business on that floor?" the operator asked. "Really! What makes you think that's any of your business, young man?" the rider snapped. Keeping his eye on the rising numbers and his finger on the controls, the young man quietly responded, "Because there are only twelve floors in this building, Ma'am." Do you believe in telling the truth? What matters to you? What are your values? Is self-discipline important to you? What about integrity, morality, and faith? A mission statement deals with what you are doing. Personal values determine HOW you will do it. Do you have lines you refuse to cross? Where does that determination come from? Your character will affect every area of your life---from your diet to your dating. Think about your personal values. Do you want to be thinner, look younger, or be physically fit because of some selfish motive? Or do your life goals come from an inner strength? Character counts---even more than calories. |
