Recovery teaches us to love who we are.

I am not finished. I am growing, changing, and evolving. Nevertheless, I
like myself today. I am aware of possibilities for improvement, but I don't
want to be anyone else. I have become comfortable with and accepting of who
I am. Looking back on some of the things I have done that proved to be poor
ideas, I can understand why I acted as I did. I can forgive my mistakes and
move on to try again.

First, we accept the things we cannot change--things such as our height,
body build, eye color, family of origin, aptitudes, and conditioning. Then,
we go beyond acceptance to the realization that these characteristics are
part of what makes us special. Even our less desirable attributes, such as
our tendency to overeat or undereat, are part of who we are. Gently and
lovingly, we can create for ourselves the kind of supportive environment
that will allow us to function at our best. Each time we make and follow a
food plan that fills our individual needs, we are actively loving who we
are.

Today, I'm glad to be me.
