From "Minute Motivators for Dieter's," by Stan Toler Get out of the fast-food rut. "You can find your way across the country using burger joints the way a navigator uses stars." ~Charles Kuralt Selection You've heard the expression "as American as apple pie." Not anymore! Apple pie has a challenger. Now we may say "as American as a double cheeseburger and a large order of fries." There's nothing wrong with a sandwich and a side order now and then, but there's more to life than scorched meat and greased potato scrapings. Sample some foods that are lower in fat. Jared, a college student with a weight problem, lost 235 pounds and gained national recognition by switching to Subway sandwiches and adding exercise to his daily routine. A third-grader visited a museum of modern art with his father. As they stood in front of a painting that was a purple canvas with one red spot in the center, the boy commented on the emptiness of the canvas: "Look, Dad! Somebody stole the rest of the painting!" If your diet is limited to certain fast foods, you might be missing out on the rest of the diet picture. Get out of the fast-food rut. Try a sandwich that's lower in fat. You might even try Jared's diet. |
