From "Slim for Him," by Patricia B. Kreml

A Temple of God

Know ye not ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
1 Corinthians 3:16

If studied in its totality, this verse is speaking of the church as a body as well as an individual body in which His Spirit dwells. We, as dieters, are concerned with both aspects. The church as a body needs to keep itself free and clean from sin and false teaching. This includes teaching on the subject of food, weight control, and eating habits. A church body that condones gluttony, greed, and poor eating habits is corrupting God's temple as is the individual Christian who harbors such unscriptural beliefs.

The Word says that anyone who corrupts and defiles God's holy temple will also be corrupted with death for it. If we truly believe we have the Spirit of God within us, how can we keep damaging that "temple" selfishly? Remember, your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit; keep it clean for Him and for yourself.

Lord, keep me ever mindful that my body is the temple in which your Spirit dwells. I want it to be a holy, liveable place for Him to be. Remind me, Lord, when I am not giving that temple proper care, that I might seek forgiveness and be cleansed and made holy again.

What a fantastic devotion. Yesterday was my rotten day, and I really messed up His temple....I am going to clean it out today.

...your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit;
keep it clean for Him and for yourself.
