From "Minute Motivators for Dieters," by Stan Toler

Go easy on the sugar.

"Do you like honey? Don't eat too much of it, or it will make you sick!"
Proverbs 25:16

Restraint

A stand-up comedian once commented that he used so much artificial sweetener, he had become artificially sweet. Almost any food is healthy if eaten in proper portions. And almost any food can be dangerous when overconsumed.

Learn that there's a place for every food, and learn to keep every food in it's place. One of the first ingredients to get control over is sugar. At times it seems that sugar is the soil of the earth. Candy stores and bakeries build their businesses on the foundation of that granulated gladness. They may hide it in their storefront delicacies, but one bite and you know you've found it!

You don't have to be a sugar slave. Take control. Start by putting your sugar intake within proper limits. Identify the sources of sugar in your diet. How many of them should be reduced or eliminated? Sugared cereals, soft drinks, candy, desserts---all of them are okay, in the proper proportions. But if you DON'T keep them in their proper proportions, you won't be in yours.
