From "Slim for Him," by Patricia B. Kreml Playing the Harlot For their mother hath played the harlot: she that conceived them hath done shamefully: for she said, I will go after my lovers, that give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, mine oil and my drink. Hos. 2:5 The "mother" in this Scripture has a dual reference; it speaks of both Israel as a nation and Hosea's wife in the flesh. The Lord, in speaking to Hosea, compared Israel (Hosea's wife) to a harlot who leaves her home, husband and children to seek her lovers. But why does she run after her lovers? Because they give her food, drink, and clothing that she delights in. Apparently, she esteems these things more than the love of her husband and family. God was saying here that Israel was seeking her lovers, her other gods, because they fed and satisfied her appetites and gave her what she selfishly wanted. Who do you love today, dieter? Do you love Jesus? Do you love Food? Do you love a certain diet because you can have lots of meat and cheese and stuff yourself? Have you been playing the harlot in your heart, running after your appetite and the fulfillment of your lust for food, and leaving the Lord behind? Think about it! Have you been doing this? If so, you need to turn around and head back in the right direction. Father, I repent of my sin. Forgive me in Jesus' name for playing the harlot with diets and people who feed my food desires. Take me back and restore your covering upon me. |
