Hi all,

I awoke to another headache this morning. It hurts all over - not real bad - but bad enough to make me grumpy. :( I hate being grumpy with my kidsPosted Image

I was thinking this morning that it might be due to my change in diet.

I took Ibuprofen again - I am drinking a coffee - I pretty much drink caffene rarely - but I know it can help with headaches. I also doused myself with tea tree oil - the cure-all.....

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Lori

Lori, we have a member named Peggy that gets migraines. She does see a doctor and I hope if she sees you she can also pass on tips to you if there are some. Also, she asked for prayer, so why don't we just agree now;

Our Father, we seek You for a healing touch for Lori. It is so hard to concentrate, to focus, to be serene when the head throbs. Lord God, we ask for a blessing on Lori. We ask You arrest the symptoms. We ask You lessen the pain. And Lord, we ask that You allow Lori to find home remedies and tips that will help in the long run. Through Christ our Lord, by whose stripes we are healed. Amen

As far as I know, the only way that coffee helps for headaches is if the headaches are caused by caffeine withdrawal.

How about this? They also recommend you do nothing without consulting your doctor.

Take B-complex and dolomite or drink chamomile tea daily as a preventative measure.

I read in a magazine (Ladies Home Journal, I think) that caffiene will actually help headaches. I hope things are better soon. We'll be praying for you. :)

Lori,

I am sorry to hear that you're not feeling well. I believe God will give you the healing and relief that you are looking for. The Editor has already prayed to our Heavenly Father, the Great Physician, and I'm in agreement with that prayer. It might, also, be wise, as suggested, to see a doctor.

I think a change in your diet could possibly be the reason for the headaches, especially if your blood sugar has been effected because you have dramatically reduced your sugar intake. You entire system can be effected by a major change in your diet.

I recommend just taking it easy on yourself for the next week or so as your body adjusts to the changes -- and if you get another headache, try to see if you can figure out if maybe something that you have eaten may have contributed to it.

Also, if you are waking up with the headaches it may be caused by the way you are sleeping. Have you changed the hours that you sleep or your bedtime / time you wake up? Have you changed your pillow or sleeping position? All of these can also cause morning headaches.

Hi all,

Well soon after you prayed Editor (I also think the ibuprofen) started working - but it has been gone ever since.

I really do know that migraines are triggered a lot of time by what you eat or don't eat. I was trying to see if I could put my finger on it.

I am sure it is blood sugar Karen - I have been borderline hypoglycemic for many years - even though it has never been diagnosed. Mine is food related. So I know I will have to be careful in how I eat. Actually if I eat the whole grains - brown rice, etc - that will help with this anyway.

I have cut out a lot of everything - and am feeling so great!!!!

I am a bit tired now - but I was surprised I wasn't tired when I got up this morning. When I have outside activities in the evenings - the next morning I am usually tired. I think it is from age - but I am sure that it is affected by my weight.

Thanks
Lori

I began having migraines about 15 years ago. Mine always came during the 3 days prior to my period. (So, duh, do think hormones could have been a factor??? The optomitrist picked up on that even though my family doc did not. I have a new family doc...)

What the new doc told me was: drink some coffee or tea, put a hot compress on your forehead, lay down.... A true migraine is usually focused in one temple - usually my right one.

It wasn't too horrible until pre-menopause and menopause came into it and they became daily. So, the new family doc put me on something I take every day. I've taken it for almost 2 years...and not one full-blown migraine during that time.

However, silly me, we've had a guest for a week and my schedule got mixed up and I missed 5 days of vitamins and meds. All night and this morning I've had a humdinger of a migraine. I took my vits and meds this morning!!!

The coffee works for a migraine since a major factor is that the blood vessels in your temple becomes contricted. The caffine and heat help the blood vessels to dilate and ease the pain. (Coffee is also an emergency help for asthma for the same reason - it dilates the bronchials and can help put off an asthma attack. Hence my DS at age 3 became a coffee drinker - for emergencies only - esp. olive trees...)

Blessings,
Karen in AZ

Today and yesterday was pretty bad - with the migraines. Actually my mother suffers from very bad migraines - in fact she is on heavy duty meds for hers.

I am sure that mine are due to eating changes - I started my muffins again. But it wasn't a great day - in fact I went and took a nap this afternoon. I also felt bloated today - so I am not doing my weigh-in. There is a stomach virus going around here - I am wondering if that was part of how I was feeling today.....

I am drinking lots of chamomille tea - decaf though - I may drink some coffee tomorrow if i get one....

Thanks.

I know this may sound contrary but sometimes my headaches, and I mean lu-lu' s have be majorly releived by ice packs on the forehead for 10-20 minutes. It's worth a try anyway, it's not a comforting as the heat pack though.

Worth a try:

Here is your latest health tip on the topic of...

Banana Peel Stops Headaches

By Dick Frymire
(via Ann Landers)

Please pass this tip along to your readers concerning a
treatment for headaches -- even a migraine.

Peel a banana, take half the banana peel, and place it on
the forehead with the inside of the peel next to the
skin.

Secure this with a headband or some strip of cloth.

Take the other half of the peel, place it on the back of
the neck and secure it also.

Be sure the banana peels are secured very snugly and the
white mushy stuff on the inside of the peel is next to
the skin.

Eighty-five percent of the people who have tried this say
they get relief within 30 minutes.

My great-grandfather, J.B. Frymire, a graduate of the
University of Louisville School of Medicine in 1867,
started using the banana peel treatment in the 1890s.
Thousand have written me to say it works.

A Tasty Smoothie for Headaches

by Linden

I'd like to share a remedy that works for me for migraine
headaches.

Pineapple-Spinach Smoothie

by Alta Craig

Here's a smoothie I frequently use when I don't have
time to eat. Take a chilled 6 oz. can of pineapple
juice, put into blender. Add a handful of washed,
chilled spinach, and blend until smooth. Tastes
delicious and is loaded with calcium, protein, and lots
of other goodies.

The recipe I'm sharing is like Alta's: take a can of
chilled pineapple chunks and add spinach in a blender
until thick. Add juice of pineapple to a consistency
that you can drink. Drink a large glassful and lay
down. The migraine should go away or at least lessen.
That is an old remedy and I don't know if anyone has
ever heard of it or not.

Fast Headache Relief

by Margie Garrison

Faster relief for headaches -- even migraines.

Even a mild headache can ruin your day... and a
migraine can be pure torture!

Next time don't reach for pain drugs, try feverfew!

In a recent study, feverfew (a natural herb) gave fast
relief. It even reduced the number of headaches
patients had.

Better yet... Stop headaches before they start...

If you're hounded by headaches, try eliminating these
common culprits from your diet for a couple of weeks.
Your headaches may just disappear. Get ride of...

* Coffee
* Chocolate
* Hard cheeses
* Sour cream
* Monosodium Glutamate(MSG), which is found in Chinese
food and in most salad bars in restaurants.

Personal note... In the early 60's I started having
migraines. I had to lie down in the dark before they
would go away. Sometimes for hours or days.

I thought it was due to stress. I had recently gotten a
divorce and was raising 4 children without help. I then
read an article about chocolate and gave it up. It was
my favorite food. I never again had a migraine.

I have very bad headaches, too. What I have found that works best for me is Exedrine (sp?) and a cold pack on my forehead, with a heat pack on the back of my head, right where it connects with the neck. The doc attributes mine to the fibromyalgia, so I don't take any heavy meds for them.
I'm praying you'll feel better! :ph43r:

A few months ago I woke up in the middle of the night with dizzy spells,in my bed,it felt like my bed was spinning as I was holding onto both sides trying to make it stop.
I fell back to sleep then in the morning I woke up and almost fell to the floor.A week later I had more dizzy spells but they seemed worse.and I had nausea and bad headaches.
My MRI came back clear. My Dr sent me to a neuro who diagnosed me with migraines. He gave me a drug called Topamax that I take 50 mg twice a day
and I havent had any headaches since.

Obesity ups migraine frequency and severity Wed Mar 8, 1:19 PM ET

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - The frequency and severity of painful migraine attacks increase as body weight increases, suggest results of a telephone interview study of nearly 3800 migraine sufferers.

Overall, 51.3 percent of interviewees had a normal body mass index (BMI), the ratio of weight to height used to estimate obesity, whereas 30.6 percent were overweight, 10.4 percent were obese and 4.6 percent were morbidly obese. Only 3.1 percent of subjects were underweight.

Sixty-five percent of those interviewed were women and the average age of participants was 38.7 years.

No association was observed between BMI and the prevalence of migraine, Dr. Marcelo E. Bigal, of Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, New York, and colleagues report in the journal Neurology.

However, as BMI increased, so did the frequency of migraine attacks. The team notes that 4.4 percent of the normal weight group had 10 to 15 headache days per month. This increased to 5.8 percent in the overweight group, 13.6 percent in the obese group and 20.7 percent in the morbidly obese group.

The percentage of subjects who reported severe migraines also increased with BMI group, from 53 percent in subjects of normal weight to 57 percent in the overweight group, 59 percent in the obese group and 65 percent in the morbidly obese group, Bigal and colleagues report.

A similar relationship was observed between BMI and migraine-related disability, light and sound sensitivity, which increased as weight increased.

The next step, investigators note, will be a prospective study to see if weight reduction can improve symptoms in obese migraineurs.

Hi

Here is a migraine headache remedy that a friend found in her Bible Remedy Cures. lol

It seemed so easy that she set out to prove that it was wrong. lol She was having a very bad headache and nothing would kick it so she read the cure in her book.

It said to take 2 teaspoonfuls of honey. She said it worked wonders. It was gone within half an hour totally. She said she would not have believed it if she hadn't tried other ways. lol Seems it doesn't work on other headaches, just migraines.

I know with hypoglycemia you have to watch out though.

Best wishes, if you try it, let me know. I am curious.

Editor, the bananna thing sounded interesting too.

HI all,

Well I originally started this thread way back when.... LOL

Well I ended up having chronic migraines until about 2 months ago..... I was totally exhausted.... I had been taking excedrin migraine.....

Well it ended up being that the caffene in the excedrine was causing most of them.... I had to take it daily.....

I now have midrin for headaches and I only have a slight headache once in awhile....

First - I will attribute it to my new healthier diet.... I am sure a lot of the foods and junk I was eating caused a lot of the headaches..... Plus I know that perimenopause (hormones) was causing them too.... This month, because of all the procedures at the hospital and dentist I have not been regular in taking my vitamins..... I am sure that is the reason I have had the slight migraines the past few days (that time of the month too).... I am also more moody right now.... WHich it had been going pretty well lately!!!

So the best cure - eat better!!!!
