GIANTS WON’T EXTEND PIERCE Posted by Mike Florio on August 31, 2008, 8:47 a.m. One of the byproducts of winning a Super Bowl is that the players who contributed to the effort naturally conclude that they deserve a reward other than a big-ass ring. For the Giants, defensive end Michael Strahan wanted more money, and receiver Plaxico Burress still wants more money. Another guy who has been asking for a new deal is linebacker Antonio Pierce. According to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, every time Pierce has asked for a raise, the team has declined. Pierce says he’s merely hoping for something that indicates to him the team doesn’t view him as a guy who could be dumped at any time. “I’ve been here four years and I sense that sometimes here,” Pierce said. “And it has nothing to do with financial [stuff]. I’m just talking about strictly as a football player, as a teammate, as an employee of the Giants. I don’t know. I just get that sense. It’s just the way people approach me. Obviously there are some comments. “Are you one of the guys? Or are you just a guy?” Pierce says “it does tick me off” that the Giants won’t even talk about an extension. “It’s not about wanting to redo your contract, it’s about wanting to end your career somewhere,” Pierce said. “I do have three years on my contract, but I don’t plan on playing just three more years. That doesn’t mean you want to make $7 million or $8 million or some crazy pay raise. You want the security that you’re going to be here. I don’t want to play for no other team. “And it ain’t about 50 cents or a million dollars. It’s about appreciation. It’s not always about ‘X’ amount of dollars. It’s about letting you know that I’m your guy.” That’s fine, but if Pierce is hoping for an extension as evidence that he’s their guy and if the team is refusing to do it, we think he has his answer. Like every other player in the league, the franchise went on for years before he arrived and the franchise will go on for years after he leaves. Only a handful of players in the NFL are truly indispensable, and Pierce simply isn’t one of them. |

I want job security too, but I don't have a current contract that will pay me almost $5mil per year for the next three years, and I don't even trash the management of my company because of it. Shut up and play big mouth. |

AP needs to worry more about his craptastic cover skills rather than complaining about his multi-million dollar contract. |
