Penny for your thoughts? Chad Pennington may not have to change his address after all. The former Jets quarterback who became expendable once the team acquired Brett Favre has hit the market hot as teams around the league go in search of a starter (or at least a starting-caliber backup). One of those teams sniffing around Pennington is the Giants. “We take a look at everybody,” general manager Jerry Reese said coyly after last night’s preseason loss to the Lions. “That includes him.” Reese wouldn’t elaborate on how much interest the Giants would have in Pennington. Nor would he say if he had been in contact with Pennington. The Giants clearly felt that they needed to upgrade behind Eli Manning when they selected Andre Woodson in the draft and signed former No. 1 overall pick David Carr during the offseason. Carr has had a shaky training camp but performed well in tonight’s 13-10 loss. The Giants’ interest was first reported last night by the New York Times. There have reportedly been at least six teams that have reached out to Pennington, the most accurate passer in NFL history. “I’ve known Chad for a long time and he’s been a good pal of mine,” Manning said. “I know he’ll bounce back on his feet and wherever he goes he’ll have a good shot at playing and playing well.” |

Both of the females in this thread are nuts. The idea of the backup QB is to hold the fort for as long as the starter is out Does anyone here think anyone on our roster can at least go .500 if Manning goes out for 4-6 weeks. Car sucks. He fell apart in that last drive, took a sack, looked lost in the 2 minute drill. The other guy might hold us at .500 Remember,we are a Super Bowl caliber team, and this window, while just opening up,does not stay open for long, why waste a year. |

Yea, ok. Let's sign a limp-armed, fragile QB as a backup. I used to like Pennington. If it were 5 years ago, maybe. He had a "decent" season in '06, but, the boy is a fucking mess. I'll keep our backups, thank you very much because at least they are already familiar with the offense, can throw the damn ball and we sure as fuck know Carr can take a beating. |

Frankly, I don't have any faith in Pennington's ability to be a viable back up because he has had his own issues staying on the field! Let's recap: 2003 - missed 6 games with a fracture to his non-throwing hand (thanks to Brandon Short) 2004 - missed 3 games after injuring his rotator cuff. He struggled greatly when he returned to the field 2005 - Had surgery on his rotator cuff, played in THREE games before re-injuring it, & had a 2nd surgery, ending his season short. 2006 - Actually played in all 16 games! They were 10-6 2007 - Missed 1 game (game 2) due to a high ankle sprain, but than was benched after starting the season 1-7. He only came back in Week 15 because Clemens was injured. He lost week 15 & 16 & Clemens returned for Week 17 (game 16). Call me nuts, but he's not what I want as a backup QB. I'd at least like someone that can stay on the field! You think Carr is shaky... sure he was in his first preseason game, but Pennington has been shaky at best in his last few games. |

If he's healthy, he's better than anything they have down there in Miami. Good pickup for them. |

If I'm correct Week 1 has the Jets at the 'Phins. Jeez, this Favre thing is already paying off. At least for one week I won't be bored out of my skull watching the Jets. Now that I think about it Week 2 has the Jets vs the Patriots*......... Don't know the rest of the schedule, but at least for the 1st 2 weeks I won't have that usual bug up my ass because of the TV games the metro area is going to get. ;) |

Leftwitch is a complainer and a bitch. He wants to start, that's why. He wouldn't accept the fact that Eli was starting. |
