Giants notes: Who's out for preseason opener Tuesday, August 5, 2008 Tom Coughlin said Tuesday the following players will miss the opening exhibition game Thursday night in Detroit: WRs Plaxico Burress (ankle), Steve Smith (groin) and Mario Manningham (thigh), CB Sam Madison (hernia), LB Gerris Wilkinson (kneecap) and OT Shane Olivea (back). News on G Chris Snee’s shoulder was good. He’s suffering only from tendinitis, but Coughlin was not sure if his son-in-law will play against the Lions. Among on-the-bubble players Coughlin says he’s anxious to see in the first preseason game are OL Na’Shan Goddard, SS Nehemiah Warrick, RBs Kay Jay Harris and Danny Ware and TE Eric Butler. Lonesome Tynes The 80-man roster limit has prevented the Giants from bringing any extra kickers or punters or a long-snapper to training camp. So in the morning sessions of two-a-days, K Lawrence Tynes often finds himself alone on the field. That’s because P Jeff Feagles goes swimming during the early session, part of his regimen as a 42-year-old entering his 21st season. “I’ve got the best coach-to-player ratio on the team,” said Tynes, referring to the one-on-one attention he gets from special teams coach Tom Quinn. Tynes says he has plenty to work on. He’s changed his approach to both field goals and kickoffs in hopes of making his kicks a little more explosive, and says he’s driving the ball better than he had. Rosenhaus in camp Drew Rosenhaus, agent for WR Plaxico Burress, was at the evening practice, fueling speculation something may be happening in the stalled talks about a new contract for Burress. Rosenhaus would not comment and Giants GM Jerry Reese said there was “nothing to report.” Assistant GM Kevin Abrams, however, did meet with Rosenhaus, who was not in town just to enjoy the cuisine. With almost a full day to talk before the team leaves for Detroit this evening, something might get done. Meanwhile Burress (ankle) was one of six wideouts who did not practice. Joining him on the sideline were Steve Smith (groin), Mario Manningham (thigh), Brandon London (hip) and Amani Toomer (leg), plus David Tyree (knee), who is on the physically-unable-to-perform list. Coughlin, however, said Toomer will play against the Lions. |

Thank God we have 20 WRs on the roster right now! Otherwise we would have 1 or 2 to play tomorrow! Blue, if you happen to see Rosenhaus when you're up there, give him a nice, strong shot to the balls for me! I fucking hate that guy! |
