I wasn't sure about some of Reese's moves last year, but he's made a believer out of me.

Shockey was obviously unhappy and willing to make waves by seeking out Reese to have a shouting match or show up, but not work. I don't see why you wouldn't want to get rid of him before camp starts.

I liked Shockey and hoped for more, but obviously there were no new suitors to bump up the market. I think we have a pretty solid team, so I'm of the opinion that the 2nd and 5th picks next year will be of about the same talent level as they were this year.

Time to get my Boss jersey :dunno:

Gene, in ref to your last point....do you think SF had to cut or trade players to create a leader in Joe Montana?  John Elway?  Favre?  Bradshaw? P.Manning?

No.

But on the other hand did any of them have to deal with a head case (or anyone as disruptive) like Shockey?

Well this sucks. I agree we could've gotten a better deal if we had accepted it earlier. I hope we don't get bit by this if we end up playing the Saints in the playoffs this year. I also hope Boss lives up to expectations and can fill the void left by Shockey's blocking.

Things are sure going to be different on the field intensity-wise this year. I think Jacobs is going to have to step it up big time in that department.

trading a solid proven pro bowl calibre player for two unknown and unproven draft picks, I'm not sure I'm on board with this, plus it does nothing for us this year . I'm sure there is a lot I don't know about this Shockey situation but right now I have more questions than answers ..

I'm not sure, but I do know that leaders aren't created from banishing strong personalities...especially those laden with talent.

Part of me thinks it sucks and part of me is so sick of hearing about Shockey that I'm glad he's gone.

The same GM that was a huge part in putting together a Super Bowl winning team, who has made the right moves in his 1st year as a GM.
Until proven otherwise,I'm not questioning his moves.
I understand you and a few here are upset, but this is a buisness, and why I am no longer crushed when someone is either cut, traded,or retires(have been like this since George Young screwed up with Simms).
This is a team, not individuals with a logo(you can find that in Dallas)and numbers. This team gelled without him. This had to happen.

He was not a "huge" part in that. The majority of the pieces were already there and Coughlin has near-Parcells like player control. If I'm gonna shine someone's shoes, it will be Coughlin's.

My being upset is not majorly fueled by my dismay over the loss of Shockey. It's my dismay on the timing... as I've stated.

Hate disagree with you Blue but as much as you would rather give credit to Tom Coughlin. Reese being the GM had a huge say in keeping Coughlin around. After going 0-2 in the playoffs plus that attitude he had then... none of us including yourself would have shed a tear had Couglin been fired last year. Another thing is Reese's draft contribute big time to the Giants last year. Aaron Ross, Steve Smith, Kevin Boss, and Ahmad Bradshaw all stepped in and did a good job for the team either during the year or/and in the playoffs.

Reese played as much as a role in our SuperBowl as anyone else.

I give him a portion of the credit, but, not a huge portion.

In all fairness those gentlemen referenced: Montana, Elway, P. Manning and Bradshaw did not go to teams that had personalities such as Shockey already established. Even still it took most, with the exception of Manning, a couple of years to establish themselves. In the case of Bradshaw, more than a couple. In his 4th and 5th seasons he was still not the uncontested starter.

The thing I hate most about this trade is not when (thought it would have been great to trade Shockey during the draft) but where. I did not want to see Shockey traded to anyone in the NFC. Least of all the Saints. Sean Peyton will make Shockey an all Pro again. And I know the first team we are going to play in the playoffs is going to be the Saints. Shockey of course is going to have a 14 catch 135 yards with two touchdowns performance against us.

There is no way Shockey was going to allow us to keep him as a Giant. I would preffered we did what the Eagles did to T.O. not allowing him to be with the team. Or trade him to an AFC team. Other then allowing Shockey to take down this team from with in am thinking trading him to the Saints was the second worst move.

Reece didn't have a large part at all in building the Giants team that went to the SB. In his job before becoming GM, he had some pull with the draft because he was the "college guy", but that was it... he was not involved with signing FAs or anything else. This team was built by Accorsi ( ) & Coughlin, no 2 ways about it.

RE: the possibility of facing the Saints & Shockey in the playoffs - at least we know his weaknesses! Shouldn't be too hard to game-plan against him.....

Must be nice to cry & whine enough so you get your way & get traded.... Wish it were that easy in the real world! I wouldn't have lost almost 6 years to jobs that nearly killed me if that were the case!
