I'm fucking nauseous...

Sources: Giants to trade Shockey to Saints
by Jay Glazer

The Giants have agreed to trade their disgruntled tight end to the New Orleans Saints for a second-round pick and a fifth-round pick, FOXSports.com has learned. The deal is pending league approval, according to a league source. Shockey must also pass a physical.

The compensation is the same the Saints offered New York back in April prior and during to the draft ... and it was turned down.

The move comes one day after Jason Taylor was traded from Miami to New York's NFC East rivals in Washington. According to a report on SI.com, the Giants had held discussions about a three-team trade in which they would have ended up with Taylor, the Saints would have landed Shockey and the Dolphins would have received a pair of draft picks.

The emergence of rookie Kevin Boss during the Giants' improbable Super Bowl run — a stretch Shockey missed due to a broken leg — made Shockey expendable. Boss started six games after Shockey's injury (two regular season and all four during the Giants' postseason run), making nine catches for 140 yards and a TD.

Shockey's attitude made the move somewhat necessary as the Giants sought to avoid distractions from their bid to repeat as Super Bowl champions.

During the team's recent minicamp, Shockey reportedly engaged in a shouting match with GM Jerry Reese, just the latest controversy involving the outspoken former first-round pick out of the University of Miami.

Shockey's absence in Phoenix during the Super Bowl was conspicuous to say the least. According to some reports, one of the many sources of Shockey's displeasure with the team was that he was not allowed to stand on the team's sidelines during the game.

In the past, Shockey also had less-than-complimentary things to say about his quarterback, Eli Manning. In fact, many have theorized that Manning's transformation from a middle-of-the-pack quarterback to a Super Bowl MVP was facilitated by Shockey's absence.

This saddens me. We get absolutely nothing for him this year. And what if NO goes deep into the playoffs? It's essentially a 3rd round pick then.

Overall, they had to make this move before camp. I can't blame the organization one bit. I just don't like it. :(

I'm surprised it went down at this time.

I thought the team would wait until just before the 3rd pre-season game before getting rid of him.

My thinking was they were going to let him show the rest of the league that he was healthy and maybe get a better deal.

Let's see if he even passes the physical..............

Why not accept the SAME FUCKING DEAL the Saints offered during the draft? They had pretty good fucking picks. Trade him now for who knows what?

Why all the smoke-blowing?

Another great start of intense irritation for the year, for me, from Reese.

Fucking jerkoffs.

I am so NOT happy right now.

Didn't see your post above Gene's. Glad to see I'm not the only one who doesn't get the timing.

There may (or may not) be circumstances behind the scenes that we're not aware of.

Maybe Shockey's people informed the Giants he wasn't going to show up and the organization just figured they didn't need/want to deal with his horse shit any longer.

If it were to happen, it would have been most beneficial prior to the draft, but I think Reese was blindsided a bit by how much Shockey wanted to be moved at this point.

The only outside circumstances is the continuance of Reese learning on the job, if you ask me.

Perhaps. It's just not very clear what we (he) knew and didn't know prior to draft, as opposed to what we've learned recently.

Meh.....
It was best for the Giants,it was obvious he wasn't going to be happy, and it was obvious that Gilbride was not going to change the offense to cater to 1 player.
I would not be surprised if Coughlin,Eli,and Gilbride went to Reese and told him that they would be better off cutting ties at this time.
And as Hampy said,we had no idea that Shockey was this unhappy, had he known he would have made the trade during the draft.Methinks while negotiating Buress' new deal Rosenhaus probably told Reese that Shockey was going to be a huge dickhead in camp and told him it would be best to move him now.
I will miss him,we definitely took a hit in the run blocking side of the TE,I think our passing game will now be more consistant(Boss could get us 50-60 catches, but the Gilbride passing attack features WRs more than the TE anyways, look for Smith to have a huge year now),with WRs(except Moss, which is a differnt issue)now who run the right sight options and know where to go)
Unfortunately I now need a new home blue

I think he's learned rather well..........

Could be..........there are no ifs, ands, or buts about it this is now Mannings team. The organization perhaps didn't need/want that one guy trying to mess that up.

The same GM that was a huge part in putting together a Super Bowl winning team, who has made the right moves in his 1st year as a GM.
Until proven otherwise,I'm not questioning his moves.
I understand you and a few here are upset, but this is a buisness, and why I am no longer crushed when someone is either cut, traded,or retires(have been like this since George Young screwed up with Simms).
This is a team, not individuals with a logo(you can find that in Dallas)and numbers. This team gelled without him. This had to happen.

Gene, in ref to your last point....do you think SF had to cut or trade players to create a leader in Joe Montana? John Elway? Favre? Bradshaw? P.Manning?
