the guarantee...jackassidness or stroke of genius?

The guarantee
( A ) takes pressure off Eli and focuses on Plax..

( B ) riles up the pats defense either
(1)causing double and triple coverage making other WRs more open...
(2) making them play angry causing mistakes and dumb penalties allowing Plax to benefit...
(3)putting guys way up to bump Plax in battles that he usually wins..

any thoughts?

YOU are the genius!

Good call on all fronts! I think it is important to take the focus off Eli.... he needs to "relax" as much as he can. 12 pointed out the problems when you feel you have to win & the mistakes that are forced from trying to "step up" your game & "forcing" it....

I hope they decide to cover Plax more to open up the game for the other receivers, but I don't know how long the Pats will fall for that.... than again, they'll let up on the coverage of Plax to cover the others, hence freeing him up.

Me likey!

How can you have a problem with him saying they're going to win? Who cares if he predicted a score. At least he didn't say the Giants are going to win 42-14! What's he supposed to do, say the Giants are going to lose?

For starters, you really don't need to quote what was said when you post RIGHT AFTER it.

Next, you need to fill us in on what specific "quotes" you're referring to. Toomer & Strahan have said lots of things this week. I didn't hear either of them "berate" Plax for what he said, than again, I haven't had the time to read every article printed, nor have I had the time to hear every interview given.

Both of them, as well as many teammates, have made comments about winning the game. Like I said, what are they supposed to do, say "It's really great to be here, but the Pats are an awesome team & we're gonna get beat." No! I have no problem with them showing confidence. If they're walking around thinking the Pats are unbeatable, then they will lose.

Yeah, that's what I thought.

Well it would be a first.

Toomer and Strahan............

"Toomer's message to teammates: "I want everybody to focus on the fact that it's a game, and that we have this one more game. Don't just be happy about being in the Super Bowl."

It's the same message Michael Strahan said in front of the entire team earlier in the week. Strahan, Toomer and backup offensive lineman Grey Ruegamer (with the 2001 Patriots) are the only Giants to have played in a Super Bowl.

But Toomer's words are especially hard-hitting because he rarely expresses such emotion. Usually careful with his words and feelings, Toomer was emphatic about his insistence that his teammates, especially the younger ones, get the message: You do not go to the Super Bowl every year, and when you do, you'd better win it."

You took issue with KC wondering what's wrong with Plax saying the Giants would win.

By wondering if "everything Strahan and Toomer said went in one ear and out the other."

Then you quoted Toomer exhorting his teammates not to be happy just to have made it to the game, and to remember that "You do not go to the Super Bowl every year, and when you do, you'd better win it."

I'm confused.

What are the rules?
