A lot of people have us taking this guy in round 1. In fact my boy McShays from Scouts Inc changed his pick from Poz to Ross. Aaron Ross CB 6'1 193 Texas 4.54 By: Robert Davis After backing up as a freshman, Ross joined the corner rotation as a sophomore, finishing with 36 tackles and an interception. As a junior, he became a dual threat standout. As a corner, Ross had a team high three interceptions, and added 62 tackles to go along with it. His biggest impact was as a punt returner, where he earned All Big 12 1st team honors after averaging 14.7 yards per return, and taking two back for touchdowns. Ross put it all together this year, winning the Thorpe award, for the nation’s top defensive back. He finished the year with 73 tackles, three for loss, a sack, and five interceptions. He also averaged 11.5 yards per punt return, and took one back for a touchdown. Aaron Ross has a great blend of skills. His athleticism, quickness, and speed make him an impact performer as a cornerback and return man. He has the ability to stick with receivers in and out of cuts, and the speed to run with them down the field. Ross also shows the ball skills to locate the ball while it is in the air and make a play on it. His playmaking skills as a punt returner add to his value. Ross is a work in progress as a corner. He relies on his athletic gifts too often to make plays. He is also going to have to bulk up and get stronger at the next level. He has a thin frame, and can have problems against more physical receivers. Ross has a lot of upside as a corner, but may need time to develop his skills. His ability on special teams should allow him to get on the field early however, and that may entice a team to take him earlier than expected considering the work he needs to put in as a corner. Ross looks to have pushed himself into the first round range with solid showings at the combine and his pro day. John Murphy's take: His eye-opening senior campaign has driven up his stock more than expected thanks to his aggressiveness and terrific natural ball instincts. Ross' ideal height, long arms and ability to stick on the hip of most receivers gives him the blend of talent to come off the board very early in the draft. His ability to make good reads and judgment when the ball is in the air should continue to grow since he spent the early portion of his career sitting behind guys such as Michael Huff, Nathan Vasher and Cedric Griffin. He has an extra burst of closing speed on shorter routes and when coming up in run support. Even better, he is a willing and physical tackler in the open field – a lost art for most man cover guys. He was a little stiff in some of the agility and positional drills, but still posted very good times. Ross, doubling as one of the team's primary return men, will provide instant help on special teams and could challenge for playing time right away because he plays mistake-free football. He's also a very coachable kid. Over time, he will develop into a solid NFL starter equal to that of the aforementioned Longhorns players. |

Ross also shows the ball skills to locate the ball while it is in the air and make a play on it. Is that allowed on our team? |

Nah,those qualities fall under what the Giants consider charactor flaws. I would not be upset if we take him(fills a need and is a great return man |

I would be far from upset, but the last Texas corner draft pick still sticks in my mind. It doesn't stick for long since he was only on the team for a year (maybe two). Remember Roderick fucking Babers? <_< Anyway, my man crush is still Posluzny. Love the motor, love the passion, love the passion, love the passion. Have I mentioned I'm partial to his passion for the game? |

Strengths: Great athlete with fluid hips...Has an almost ideal blend of size and bulk...Leaper with very good hands and ball skills...Playmaker with a knack for being in the right place...Gives a solid effort in run support and is a pretty powerful hitter...He plays faster than he times and has top recovery speed...Elusive in the open field and is also an excellent return man...Relatively productive despite limited opportunities. Weaknesses: Does not have a ton of starting experience...Is not very physical and needs to get stronger...May not have elite timed speed...Is raw in terms of his technique and footwork...Will miss some tackles at times...Instincts are questionable...Gambles and take too many risks...Gives big cushions...Was he simply a one-year wonder? Notes: Recipient of the Thorpe Award as college football's top defensive back...Did not become a starter until his senior year...It's hard to believe this guy was a nickel and dime back for most of his college career but that's what happens when you play with the likes of Michael Huff, Cedric Griffin, Nathan Vasher, Michael Griffin and Tarell Brown...Saw his stock soar this past year and quickly bypassed Brown as the Longhorns top corner...An intriguing prospect who is definitely on the rise. |

Right on the money with that. I would have perferred a LB, but truth be told I'm just glad it wasn't someone like Staley! |

Totally with you there. Corner is an obvious need, just about as bad as LB. I think our overall depth at the LB position is worse than we currently have at corner, so I do wish we went LB, but I can't argue with trying again to get a corner who can play. |
