Giant move in Briggs' future? BY ARTHUR STAPLE Newsday Staff Correspondent February 3, 2007 MIAMI - Lance Briggs is just fine with being one of the other linebackers alongside Brian Urlacher. Briggs, who made his second consecutive Pro Bowl this season, is focused on winning a Super Bowl. As soon as that's over, though, his focus will be on winning a huge payday as the premier linebacker on the free-agent market. "I think about it. I think about these practices," Briggs said. "There was a comment made the other day that 'this is our last Wednesday practice.' I think they meant it was our last one of the year, but I think it might be the last one, period. "If it is, then I enjoyed the ride; if it isn't, then great, let's get back here and have another last Wednesday next year." Briggs was a third-round pick in 2003 out of Arizona and has blossomed into almost an every-down linebacker like his better-known teammate, Urlacher. Briggs stays on the field at his weak-side spot in nickel defense packages, which will help the Bears against Peyton Manning and the Colts' no-huddle offense. That also will enhance his value on the open market, especially to teams that run the cover-2 defense that the Bears have. One of those teams, at least through last season, was the Giants. And Briggs has an "in" there with former Arizona teammate Antonio Pierce. "If he comes in to see us, we'll sign him. The problem is you've got to get him there, because he's going to cost a ton," Pierce said Friday. "I talked to the coaches when the season ended, but I'm not going to start lobbying like I did for LaVar [Arrington]. I did my one-year GM internship. Now it's time to focus on Antonio." With Arrington on the mend from a torn Achilles and Carlos Emmons a likely cut, the Giants almost certainly will be looking for free-agent linebacking help. O'Hara, Giants talking deal The Giants don't have too many of their own free agents to re-sign. The biggest one might be center Shaun O'Hara, who, like Pierce, is taking in Super Bowl week down here, though O'Hara isn't sure he'll be a Giant next season. He definitely wants to be. He's believed to be seeking a five-year deal; the rough average of the last five contracts signed by established centers in the league is $3 million a year, which seems a reasonable price to keep the Giants' offensive line together for a third straight year. O'Hara said his agent, Tony Agnone, and Giants GM Jerry Reese might start serious talks next week. If he makes it to the start of free agency March 2, though, all bets are off - that's when other teams do crazy things, such as the Browns' six-year, $36-million contract for LeCharles Bentley last year. "There's a part of you that says, 'Hey, I wonder what [free agency] would be like,' but I think that's Plan B," O'Hara said. "I'd like Plan A to work out." |

It's not a good way to start for Pee Wee Reese if we don't sign O'Hara. That's all I'm sayin' He's definitely the leader of that Oline and along with Shockey is one of the true leaders on that offense. Not to mention a pretty darn good center. |

O'hara is definately an asset on and off the field. Quality O-Lineman that has a fair amount of leadership value. |

No one has said we would'nt sign O'Hara as for Briggs I think he's been helped out a whole lot by playing with BU.
