Saw this in today's Daily News and thought it was worthy of it's own page rather than having it buried in Rick's thread: "First Round"...................

Who's next?

The Giants won't know the identity of their first-round playoff opponent until at least 4 p.m. today, probably not until 7 p.m. and possibly not until midnight. They are awaiting the results of at least three, probably four, and possibly all of today's games and charting 36 different possible outcomes. The end result, though, is that they'll be facing one of these four teams:

CAROLINA PANTHERS (10-5)

Today at Atlanta, 1 p.m.

Chance the Giants can face them: 40%

Storyline: Welcome back John Fox

Why the Giants want them: With a struggling, beat-up running game, the Panthers' offense has become one-dimensional and erratic.

Why the Giants don't want them: Fox's D has given up 14 points or fewer seven times in last nine games.

WASHINGTON REDSKINS (9-6)

Today at Philadelphia, 4:15 p.m.

Chance the Giants can face them: 33.3%

Storyline: Best two out of three

Why the Giants want them: They've scored 56 points on the 'Skins in two games, not including Plaxico Burress' dropped TD and the one Amani Toomer had called back.

Why the Giants don't want them: They're one of the NFL's hottest teams, and nobody can cover Santana Moss.

DALLAS COWBOYS (9-6)

Tonight vs. St. Louis, 8:30 p.m.

Chance the Giants can face them: 20%

Storyline: Tuna's big finale?

Why the Giants want them: The Giants looked like the better team in both games against Dallas (1-1) even though Eli Manning was awful both times (26 for 60, 367 yards, 1 TD, 3 INT)

Why the Giants don't want them: Did you see the way they rallied to beat Carolina and Kansas City in the last three weeks? Never count a Bill Parcells team out.

TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS (10-5)

Today vs New Orleans, 1 p.m.

Chance the Giants can face them: 6.7%

Storyline: Phil Simms' son against dad's old team.

Why the Giants want them: They have the worst passing offense left in the playoff chase outside of Chicago

Why the Giants don't want them: They've got the NFL's No.2 ranked defense, giving up just 1.7 more yards per game than the feared Chicago D.
