Doug Flutie??

According to press reports, unrestricted free agent QB Doug Flutie, who was cut by the Chargers last month, met with the Giants yesterday. The 42-year old Flutie also took a team physical as he recently had a knee scoped. Head Coach Tom Coughlin was Flutie's quarterback coach at Boston College in the early 1980's.

Newsday speculates that the Giants may be concerned about the health of QB Jim Miller's shoulder. If the Giants cut Miller, it would only salary cap cost for the team would be the $25,000 signing bonus they gave him when he signed his 1-year contract earlier this offseason. However, The Daily News is reporting that the Giants' interest in Flutie is not strong. When asked if the team plans to sign Flutie, General Manager Ernie Accorsi responded, "Not today...We just wanted to give him a physical - that's really the end of it."

If I was the GM I wouldn't sign either one. However... If I had to pick between Flutie and Jim Miller I would rather have Flutie. Only because I think he can help Eli a lot more than Miller. Also, Flutie has proven in the past that he can come in and win games. He is not a starter but he has proven to be a dependable backup.

I may be in the minority here, but if they're not signing an experienced guy who's going to be here for the next few years, I don't care who the back-up is.

I'm banking on the franchise staying healthy.

I agree with you. The thing is that I don't like either of these QBs as our starter so we have to hope that Eli can stay healthy behind an improved O-Line. So, if it is going to come down to these two you have to look at which one Eli can learn the most from. In my opinion that would be Flutie. If it was my choice Palmer would start the preseason at second string. He is the most experienced in the system.

I agree. Be it Miller or Flutie, they should take on the 3rd QB/mentor role. Honestly, I can't see either being around long enough to make much difference though.

I can't fault Jesse for what he did....he was getting exposure for his post-football career.

When I told my bro we signed Miller as our back up, he said, "You better pray Eli doesn't go down." When I tell him about Flutie, he'll be happy.....he's a Bills fan, so he's a Flutie fan. Hates the way the Bills screwed him over....

I'd MUCH rather have Flutie than Miller. Flutie may be old, but the dude can still play!

And they're laughing at us now! We took their beat up back up off their hands & they got Flutie as a back up. (We did sign him from NE, right? I can't remember now! Damn kids fried my brain this week!)

One person who is not laughing that Miller is with the Giants is Tom Brady. He gave Miller alot of credit for helping him during his time there. Thats just the kind of guy Eli needs. As I recall Flutie wasn't so hot a teammate when not starting. Nobody wants to see the backup play much but I'll take the guy with a career winning record as well as more td's than int's over Palmer.

Acccording to todays papers the reason the Giants were looking at Flutie was because Miller is injured........

Seems like he did something to his hip.........even though the surgery was minor it's going to keep him out until August........

Personally I'm not to worried about the BO QB........IMHO it doesn't matter who #2 is at the moment.....should Manning go down I'm sure the Giants will sign someone at that particular time.....there's always going to be someone available.........

So is Kent Graham. Haven't seen the NY papers so I didn't know about Miller. He will still be able to mentor though which will hopefully be the only help Manning needs. Maybe Laurentzen will win the back up job.
