Hamp- Truthfully, I sincerely doubt I would feel any different than I do now as an outsider looking in. He's explained his reasons and I find no fault in them, or him. If he feels this is what he needs to get himself conditioned to what he was in year one, where he shirked off injuries, etc... like they were mosquito bites, I can't knock him. Maybe I "get it" because I have a seriously independent personality and I know sometimes I need to be left the fuck alone, in my own element, to "do my thing", so that in the end I can contribute stronger than if I go with the median group way, which I feel is weak and watered down in order to be a one-size-fits-all way of doing things. *shrug* |

I am going by the article that mentioned those involved with Shockey in the workouts which included Burress and Joseph. It did not refer to them in the past tense nor did it point out that those other 2 Giants had reported. Beyond that I don't know. Perhaps he did, in which case I'm wrong. Won't be the 1st or last. Hamp, I did understand what you meant and my comment was that this player considers Shockey a good teammate and says that is the general perception. Maybe he is and maybe not. I agree with you that he is not a leader type. Bottom line though, he has done the off season program the last couple of years and is not satisfied with the results and seems to feel that it has impacted his play on the field. He may be right, he may not. I'm willing to wait and see the results this season. If they are not appreciably better then he has no excuse for not being in the team program from now on. |

I understand what you both are saying, I just wanted him here as early as possible to work with Eli. Developing familiarity with receivers can sometimes take awhile. The sooner he got here and began the process, the better for all involved. All other things I agree with if he wants to do things his way AND produces because of it. I think this offseason is important. I think for the team, this year he should be here and I'm happy that now he is. The more work Eli gets with his receivers the better. And no time better than the present.

Out of curiosity how much passing and such do they do during these off season programs. I always thought that stuff was done in mini camp & that the current stuff was weight work and other conditioning. Do I have that wrong? |

From Coughlin's post-draft press conference: Quarterbacks ask the receivers to go outside and run routes. They do that twice, literally, twice a week. For everybody, running backs, tight ends, wide receivers, anybody that is here is welcome. Some of the defensive backs are out there catching the ball, which is a good thing. So there are great opportunities for guys to spend on the field in a non-structured way or structured simply from the players' standpoint. It is a good opportunity for Eli and the quarterbacks to demonstrate leadership, to organize and to go out on the field. We would like as many as possible, time permitting, to do that. He also mentioned chemistry and that the offseason program affords players the opportunity to review tape and go over some things with their respective potion coaches. |

My take on it is as follows Hes trying hard to bring back the shockey we love the guy who sparked the team and by doing so he went back to his roots where he believed the answer was.. cant fault him for that is it ethical not in the team sense.. player wise.. he thinks that this will bring him to the top of his game.. fine do it.. if it works hes a hero if not hes the goat.. time will tell... the end.

It is not MANDATORY that he be here & if he feels better about working out solo & concentrating on what he needs to, fine. No problem with that, as long as he is here when he HAS to be, & I'm guessing he's here now (not that I read any of the articles!
). As long as he is in shape & ready to go, I don't care if he works out in Tibet with a bunch of Monks!
