I heard the end of the report on last night's news. It's inoperable. :(

I haven't been online since I got home, until now, so, I haven't been able to see any articles. I will look and post when I do.

Tisch has brain cancer

Giants co-owner Preston Robert Tisch, 78, has been diagnosed with brain cancer, leaving uncertainty over his long-term involvement in running the franchise.

Tisch, who purchased a 50-percent stake in the team from Timothy Mara in 1991, is undergoing treatment for the disease. His prognosis is uncertain.

"He's been diagnosed as having cancer," Howard Rubenstein, a spokesman for the Tisch family, said in a statement. "He and his family do not plan to release any further details and request that their privacy be respected."

The Giants had no comment.

Tisch's son, Jonathan, the Giants' treasurer, may take a more active role in day-to-day operations, according to people familiar with the situation. Robert Tisch's condition is not expected to result in a sale of his stake in the team, because it is expected that the franchise will remain in his family for the foreseeable future.

Tisch appeared fit during a recent trip to the team's training complex in Albany, although he apparently has had some memory loss.

Tisch is chairman of the Loews Corp. and was postmaster general of the United States from 1986-88. He lives in New York City and Rye with his wife, Joan. They have three children.

Tisch has been a driving force in the Giants' bid to secure financing for a major renovation of Giants Stadium. The Giants recently received a commitment from the New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority to upgrade the stadium, although the team is also investigating the possibility of having a stadium built near the current facility.

Tisch and Wellington Mara, the Giants' president and co-owner, have formed one of the most congenial ownership tandems in sports. They have never had a public dispute and meet regularly to discuss the organization.
