Just sooooo wrong on so many levels.

Yea- let's have Tiki and Toomer returning punts. Brilliant!

The fucking idiocy marches on!

Seriously though........although I wouldn't have made this move at this juncture....why do it now? ..... it's not earth shattering. Joyce was a nice return guy, not great. And no way he plays RB in the NFL imo. So when you're such a specialized player, you have to bring some more value to the table by playing on other ST's. And he wasn't very good at it. He's not a good coverage guy, he's not a blocker on the Punt and FG squad, etc. So really.......he was simply a PR and KR. And to have a guy who is so specialized and limited...........he better be really, REALLY good at what he does. And he's not that good to take up a roster spot for doing a job that we can get somebody else to do. Somebody else who will provide other value on other parts of the team.

Now.......even though Tiki is far and away our best PR.......hell no, that's ain't gonna happen. I can't see that in any scenario. Same for Toomer. I don't even think Toomer is a very good PR, even though his numbers are very similar to Tiki's. KR we'll be fine with some backup WR's and maybe that backup RB we picked up, Keaton. As far as PR......I honestly don't know. But somebody will step up. Maybe Norman Hand. :flex:

Yea- but how many PR did he have last year?? Just a couple.

I think this was a stupid, stupid, STUPID move.

We can say "we can always sign someone better, blah, blah, blah" but that's a big IF.

Sign someone better FIRST, then you toss your ONLY remaining return man if he can't beat the guy out.

Coughlin said starters may play specials when he was hired. If Dayne gets a lot of carries, maybe Barber will be returning punts.

No argument about the timing. We could have found a certain return man either on the current roster or outside.....and then let Joyce go if that would have been the case. Even bringing these other RBs in, doesn't mean we had to let Joyce go.

I just think it came down to Joyce's other skills, or lack thereof.....rather than Coughlin not thinking he was a good return man.

That could happen Rick, but I'd be very, very surprised.

Now if we had traded down, picked up another 3rd rounder, and drafted Michael Turner in the mid rounds as I wanted to..........oh forget it. ;)

According to a poster at BBI, Curtis Deloatch apparently got a lot of work today as punt returner and looked good. Maybe he beat Joyce out?

If Couglin is smart. he better put Tim Carter as the punt returner/kickoff returner.
