I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1) Hilliard is back! Who is going to stop Hilliard, Shockey, Toomer and Barber going out for passes all at the same time? The mere thought of it makes me drool. 2) Tim Carter sounds like a guy who can contribute. 3) Shockey is no longer a rookie and his toe is OK now. 4) The D-line has been upgraded tremendously in the depth department. I think this is going to be huge. I see this as the biggest single upgrade over last year's team. 5) Feagles will undoubtedly be a huge upgrade. 6) I'm not worried about the O-line anymore unless someone gets hurt. This Diehl guy sounds like a player and Bober and Seubert should be even better with the added experience. The wildcard is Allen, but from reading what you guys have posted, it sounds like he's palyed quite well the last couple of games. All this being said, anything less than a division title and an appearance in the NFC championship game would be a major disappointment to me. |

I'm totally pumped up. This time next week we'll all be knee deep in the greatest sport on earth. Thursday night is a teaser game. We get to watch the Jets expose Spurrier and the Three Ring circus and then the real games start. I'm fucking pumped. The Birds cap off the weekend with the Bucs. Something tells me that this weekend is going to take forever to get here!! Just a few points from your resident opposing division rival fan... 1) Hilliard is back! Who is going to stop Hilliard, Shockey, Toomer and Barber going out for passes all at the same time? The mere thought of it makes me drool. Your OL could very well be the thing that causes your offense to not operate as expected. If Kerry has no time to throw the ball, the down-the-field approach can be thwarted. Teams could eventually stack the box with 8 guys if your OL cannot give Collins time. 3) Shockey is no longer a rookie and his toe is OK now. Yeah, but he has a busted rib. I'm sure he'll play, but will it limit him? Broken/cracked ribs are hella painful and while he might feel better now, what happens if he starts getting hit for 60 minutes each week? 4) The D-line has been upgraded tremendously in the depth department. I think this is going to be huge. I see this as the biggest single upgrade over last year's team. Depth is a nice thing to have. The Eagles have had that luxury over the last two years on the DL. It keeps guys fresh and helps during the playoff push. 5) Feagles will undoubtedly be a huge upgrade. Yep. I agree. This is what I'd be worried about the most if I were a Giant fan. The thing about the preseason is that teams play a vanilla, watered down defense. Not a lot of stunting on the DL or blitzing. You can pretty much guarantee that opposing D-cord's will look to attack the right side of your OL. If Fassel has to end up keeping Shockey, Barber or Finn in to help block for Collins, that limits the options down field. Plus, I was suprised to see Fassel cut the veteran experience you had as backups. Barrett Brooks cut in favor of Roehl? Jeff Hatch isn't experienced due to his injury last year either. I wouldn't be shocked to see you guys try to pick up a guy like Corbin Lacina to help out. Lacina was cut by the Pats after starting all 16 games for the Vikes last year. Just my $.02 as always ;) |

I don't know, Phreak. I was worried about the line, but the more I think about it, there was far more reason to be concerned last year. Unlike the beginning of last year, (when almost everybody was an unknown
) we now know that Seubert and Bober can play and play very well. All the practice reports I've read and the game reviews suggest that the right side of the line has played very well ever since Hopkins was removed as a starter (and subsequently cut). To date, I have yet to read or hear anythng about Diehl that has been less than stellar. Apparently they are very high in him. If Allen just turns out to be *average* I see no reason why this O-line should not as good or better than last year's line. Barring injuries of course. Injuries would be a big problem, but that's true of a lot of teams. What makes you think there will be a major problem with the Giants O-line? (Other than wishful thinking, of course). ;) :P 3/5th of the unit played quite well last year, and it appears the right side was only a problem when Hopkins was in there.

I hear ya about 3/5th's of your OL staying intact, but those three guys cannot help out Diehl and Allen during a game. Like I said about it being preseason, the opposing defenses weren't exactly going all out in their gameplanning. Not nearly as many stunts and blitzes were showcased in the 4 preseason games as one team could show in a regular season game. Preseason defense was a lot of "read and react" and coaches judging guys on fundamentals. I could be wrong, but I'm just saying that when the bullets start flying for real, opposing defenses will target the right side of your OL until they prove they can handle the heat. |

Phreak the guys that we replaced can't hold a candle to the guys we have now. You probably didn't follow the Giants Oline woes last year, but those guys spanked in preseason bad. Rosie got spanked all year and was about to benched for the current starter, Allen. There is no reason to not be optimistic about the Oline especially when compared to last years. We cut Brooks, a guy that started many games. He aint bringing in Lacina. McNally is more than happy with the guys we have. Anyhow 1) I seem to remember those guys doing shit for many weeks last year when they were healthy. Jimmy's teams always start slow. Edit: my bad, seems were looking for a veteran tackle for depth. Doesn't make much sense that they cut Brooks. You won't find better. Also looking for a bocking TE which I suggested awhile back. |

That's very likely true. But, I'm sure any decently coached NFL team is constantly drilling the O-line on picking up stunts and blitzes throughout camp and daily practices. The Giants have some pretty good defensive players to give those guys a workout. |

I couldnt agree w/ Rick's original post more. We have the Rams offense of a few yrs ago w/ all the weapons, who's gonna stop em? They have no secondary as well, and we shut down a healthy Warner and Faulk last year. Anything less than a division title and NFC Championship would be a dissapointment to me as well. |
