No doubt that most people think he's a bust. And if he got 300 carries in a season and didn't do diddly with them, then I'd be with the majority. But he hasn't had the opportunity for me to completely give up on him. Now that said......as I've admitted many times in the past......he hasn't produced with the limited opportunity given. In this league, you have to do the most with the chance that you get and he hasn't gotten it done. So in that respect, yes, he's been a disappointment. I feel for the guy because I've been there. You can't judge his ability as a starter on a hand full of carries per game that many times come 30-45 minutes (real time) between one another. Especially not for a guy that has been the #1 back his entire life on every level. That's just my take. |

I've watched Levens throughout his whole career. I've seen what he can do and it's not much of anything at this point in his career. He sucked the last few years. Don't be fooled by his stats last year with limited carries behind an all pro line. He wasn't a sought after FA and with good reason. Beyond sucking he's missed some time in camp, has been poor in preseason, and doesn't know the offense all that well. And to end a myth that I've seen on message boards, he's not a good short yardage back. If anyone expects him to pound it in on goaline situations, they're nuts. The man couldn't do that when he was young and healthy. He's proved that all preseason. About the only positive I see is that he can catch the ball very well. 10 carries 34 yards. He broke two 10 yard runs with the first team Oline against the second team D in the 2nd half. His numbers against the first team D were as bad as they looked on TV. Back to my point about the preseason. Bennett and Warren had about the same amount of carries as Dayne and didn't even make the team. Joyce had only a few less. In 5 games Dayne had less than 30 carries. He never sees much time in preseason for whatever reason. He'll still be the number 2 guy. |

If you take out the part about catching the ball well, this sounds like it could be a pretty good description of Dayne. :baby: :P On a side note, I'd be willing to bet big bucks that Levens will convert a significantly higher percentage of "3rd and shorts" this year than Dayne will (assuming they both got a fair number of shots). The reason? No matter how bad Levens is (and I don't know much about him), it's hard to believe he can't do better than Dayne has in those situations over the last few years. |

Why of course. By "dick" I meant the popular nickname of your proper name Richard. Was that not obvious?
;) I should have known better than to say anything about myself here. But no sweat. Afterall, we have to remain lovers. What in the world would Tat ever talk about?

bah... :P at least Dayne is a good blocker. B) My problem is that I would've rather seen us go after some quality linemen, lb, free safety, and/or a TE than pick up two backs we would've been just fine without. I feel we were and are still good at rb. Other teams would love the depth we have there even before those additions. As luck has it the lb and lineman situation appears to be fine. Free safety is decent although we could do better. Te on the other hand blows. |
