![]() Prince Amukamara’s name barely was called. That meant progress. When the Giants lost Aaron Ross on Sunday to a concussion, the rookie cornerback was called on to take his place. And although the Falcons targeted him early, Amukamara was part of a defense that did not allow a single point in a 24-2 victory. The first-round pick could start Sunday in the NFC divisional playoff game at Green Bay if Ross is unable to play. “As soon as I got in, Corey [Webster] already told me, ‘You know they’re coming at you, so just play like the ball’s coming to your side every time,’” Amukamara said. But the rookie—who was not apart of the defensive game plan the previous two games—soon proved sound enough not to be picked on. And unlike the first Cowboys game when he was beaten twice for long gains, the young corner kept the receivers he was assigned in check. “I think [Sunday] was a great confidence boost for me,” he said. “And just with the practices and the consistency I’ve been having at practice, has also been ensuring some confidence in myself also.” Coach Tom Coughlin has noticed. “He’s gaining more experience each week, and that’s exactly what he needs,” he said. “He did display very good open-field transition [Sunday], turning his hips and getting himself in position. He’s physical. He will hit you. He’s coming.” So has Antrel Rolle, one of many veterans helping to groom the 22-year-old Amukamara. Hope Ross can play but if he can't the rookie must step up and i know he will be picked on a lot...... “I couldn’t be any more proud of Prince, man,” he said. “He stepped up. He’s been focused. He’s been practicing extremely better. He was in tune with the game, and he played with a lot more confidence than in the previous games. “You know, we’ve been on him pretty hard. We’ve been on him hard and Corey Webster and Aaron Ross have been doing an exceptional job of keeping him attached at the hip at all times even out of practice, even with attitude, confidence, making sure he stays ahead of the game and making sure he’s fully aware of the game.” Ross is undergoing the protocol for players who have suffered a concussion. Early indications are that he will play Sunday at Green Bay. Despite his struggles, Amukamara said, “I’m pretty confident, but yet still grounded. I still have a lot to learn and I know we have a huge challenge ahead of us this coming week.” But he’s making progress. “I’d say, everything’s been going pretty fast,” Amukamara said. “Everything started off real fast in the beginning, but now I think everything’s starting to slow down.” The rookie admitted he’s not “100 percent” right now—he had a lingering back injury and of course, broke his foot in training camp—but “they haven’t been giving me trouble yet.” Have to believe in this young guy. the lockout hurt his development and so did missing the whole pre-season and was injured but he will learn. Seems like he can be a great DB. Anyways doesn't Prince looks one of the guys from Boyz II Men?? |

Ross is expected to play. Amukamara being thrusted in the role of having to defend against the Packers explosive passing game, is kind of a scary thought |

thank god. it seemed good news that Ross was fine after the conclusion of his concussion sunday but we had to wait till everything was fine. I hope with veterans like C. Web. Ross, Grant, and Rolle we can develop Prince into great DB and i can't forget mention secondary coach peter guinta. Remember what C. Web went through and his struggles. C. Web may not be the #1 best DB in the league but when we had guys like S. Madison and R.W. Mcquarters they really helped with him with his development and confidence. |
