Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell is signed with the team through next season, according to someone informed of Fewell's contract status.

The person, who requested anonymity because the team doesn't usually divulge the deals for their coaches, said Fewell received an extension after his round of head-coaching interviews last offseason with the Broncos, Panthers, Browns and Titans. Fewell was the runner-up to Ron Rivera in Carolina.

Fewell initially signed a two-year deal with the Giants after the team fired Bill Sheridan following the 2009 season.

Despite Steve Spagnuolo's being on the market after his being dismissed as Rams head coach, it appears the Giants are content with Fewell's performance. The team is ranked 27th in total defense, though the No. 1 seeds in each conference - the Patriots and Packers - are ranked 31st and 32nd, respectively.

Also, should the Giants go on a bit of a run here, there's a chance he could become a hot head-coaching candidate once again, particularly if the defense continues to play well after recent adjustments by Fewell to make the players more comfortable.

This means nothing. That he may have signed an extension does not mean it will be honored. Contracts are made to be broken. If Spags were willing to return as DC/HC-in-Waiting, I believe Mssrs. Tisch and Mara would find a way to appease Perry Fewell...right out the door.

bla bla bla bla bla, particularly if the defense continues to play well after recent adjustments by Fewell to make the players more comfortable.
This (and the D line actually healthy)is the main reason for the 2 game upward trend for the defense..Fewell simplified everything, especially the coverages(why this wasn't done mid season is still a mystery)..players are not overthinking, trying to do too much, free lancing, therefore they can stick to fundamentals(gap integrity on run downs, ect)and just play

I would love to see spags back....

Fewell isn't that bad and he deserves another shot in 2012 but i do like spags as well.

We just need to stay healthy.

As for other coaches to be in NYG instead of spags is Mike Zimmer another one on my radar watch why not??
