Agent prematurely shopping Plax

Even when Plaxico Burress manages to stay out of trouble, his agent can’t.

Drew Rosenhaus got himself in a bit of hot water earlier this week when he reportedly sent an e-mail to NFL teams letting them know that Burress was available in a trade.

One problem: He isn’t. Or, at least, the Giants didn’t give Rosenhaus permission to let everyone else know.

According to the report, the Giants were pretty ticked off and Assistant GM Kevin Abrams fired off an e-mail letting teams know Rosenhaus didn’t have their blessing. Rosenhaus then sent out a second e-mail admitting as much.

By the way, according to the report, that e-mail also told teams that Arizona’s Anquan Boldin and Cincinnati’s Chad Johnson were available by trade, too. I’m guessing Rosenhaus didn’t have permission from the Cardinals or Bengals either.

So, crazy agent games aside, is Burress available via trade?

From my discussions with several team officials, this is the Giants’ position on their troubled receiver: Wait and see. They are very well aware of his talent and their need for a No. 1 receiver, and they don’t want to just dump him reflexively because of all of this trouble. Besides, there are too many variables that could take the decision out of their hands. There’s his legal situation, which could land him in jail. There’s the likely NFL suspension, whether there’s a conviction or not.

And really, what NFL team is going to trade for a guy with all that hanging over his head? You want to give up a third-round pick for Burress, then watch him get carted off to jail for 3 ½ years?

If he eventually avoids jail time, the Giants have not ruled out bringing him back. You’ve heard from Jerry Reese several times saying the door remains open. You’ve heard from most of the team saying they’d welcome him back, if he wants to play by team rules. Only Tom Coughlin cast any doubt at all on a possible return during a post-season interview on WFAN, and all he said was that he wasn’t ready to say anything yet.

Of course, Burress — and Rosenhaus, and the NFLPA — complicated matters with the two grievances he’s filed in an attempt to recover a portion of the $2 million in fines, lost wages, and withheld bonuses resulting from his suspension. That could end up being an ugly fight which could burn his return bridge.

Still, for the moment that bridge is still standing. And despite Rosenhaus’ declaration that Burress is available in a trade, that possibility — if it’s even a legitimate possibility — is still a long, long way down the road.

Ole Drew is really trying to stir up the shit, isn't he?

He's a bigger a-hole than his dipshit WR clients.

looks to me that Rosenhaus is just doing what he thinks is necessary to get Plax to a new team and so he stirs the pot and starts pissing people off in order to make that happen, didn't Shockey put the lid on his career with the Giants by screaming at Reese at camp..People do things for a reason and I doubt that Rosenhause got where he is by doing dumb things.....

Even if Rosenhaus is doing what he thinks is necessary, he still can't announce things like that! He can get in a lot of trouble for contacting teams & telling them players are available when they aren't! He's a fucking douchebag! Besides, it's not like Plax needs much "selling".... he's a good WR & the other teams know that. Rosenhaus always has been & always will be a scumbag. He would sell his clients to the devil to make a buck.

That being said, I can get on board with this "wait & see" approach..... see what happens in FA & the draft, as well as with the legal system & the league! No need to dump him yet.... NFL or NYC courts may make that decision for Tom & Jerry!

hahaha! Tom & Jerry! hahahah :rolf:

Sorry, I'm easily amused this morning...... :sorry:

the part I don't get is why is Rosenhaus is doing this stuff, surely he knows its against the rules and he must also know that its very likely that even if a team did bite on trying to get Plax that he won't be available for who knows how long, half this coming season or not for a few years. I also doubt any team is stupid enough to pay any attention to any of this crap based on Plax's very confused future and his age...

Yeah, I think it's pretty amusing to think that a GM would consider trading for a guy who might very well spend 3 years in prison.

Desperation - that's what it looks like to me.
