1. Next year? 2. Within 3 years? 3. 3-5 years? 4. 6-10 years? 5. 11-17 years? The correct answer, of course, is "4". |

Next year. As a couple of us said before this past season started the Giants are loaded to be serious contenders for the next few years. They're young, talented and under contract, so despite how this season ended I'm confident they're still a top tier team. The one caveat being Gilbride. Sure it's easy to blame a coach. And to be fair to him part of the problem was execution of his game plan. But imho if you don't think there's a problem with the way he calls a game then I respectfully advise you to take your head out of the sand. He doesn't make adjustments. He doesn't take advantage or properly utilize his offensive strengths. He makes it too easy for the other team to defend the Giants. The loss to the Eagles was a perfect example. How many big yardage 1st down runs did Jacobs have only to be pulled out of the game immediately after? How many 2nd and shorts did the Giants have and then go with an empty backfield formation? Everytime he had the Philly D back on their heels Gilbride tried to get cute with the play calling. All he ended up doing was outsmart himself. I've never said that I'm smart when it comes to football, but even I'm left shaking my head when it comes to things like this. And (as childish as this is going to sound) if the home team radio crew is openly going to question wtf the OC is doing out there then yes, imho there's a problem. Jeez, I wish I had a dollar for everytime Carl Banks said: "If it ain't broke don't break (sic) it" on air. Let's not forget our Red Zone failures...........too many points left on the field. Here's hoping Gilbride has an epiphany during the offseason or gets the call in Oakland. |

For the life of me I can't remember who our Offensive Coordinator was when we won the Super Bowl. Anybody? Whoever it was, it must have been a fluke. Even with building one of the best offensives in the league the following year...once again....pure luck. It was the quarterback who made the OC. If he didn't have the best QB in the history of the league, he would have been crap. Just as he was when we won the SB. So I agree. That guy had nothing at all to do with us winning the SB. Whoever it was. And we'll never win it again with him around. After all, if a linebacker from the 80's says he was no good in one game, he must suck. Edited by 27Hampton, Jan 18 2009, 01:08 PM.

I don't know what pattern some are talking about. But they don't have a #1 WR, and Plax coming back is not gonna happen. It's amazing Seubert made his way back from what we all thought was a career-ender, and for me one of the biggest questions is how long they can keep cohesiveness on that O-line. Ward or (less likely) BJ is gone. Our linebackers are pedestrian at best, and the ol' Osi/Kiwi quandary rears its head yet again. Throw in the roulette wheel that is injury decimation and a shitstain of a play caller in Gilbride. They'll be competitive next year. They'll win the Super Bowl sometime in the next 6 to 10 years.

Maybe that reason is the thread I started listing the names of past OC's. Just a hunch. |

So many things have to go right for a team to win the Super Bowl, it's so hard to make such a prediction. As we know, it's not always the most talented team who wins it. With a few FA additions and contributions from some young players, I don't see any reason we can't compete for the title again next season. For the most part, this will be the same team that started 11-1, but God willing, we'll have Osi back and hopefully an effective replacement for Burress. I honestly don't think the loss of Ward will be a huge factor. I believe he can be replaced rather easily. Perhaps the biggest question is how the defense will fare with a new DC. Not to mention our offense with another OC if that happens. I know you all feel we'd be better off with somebody else, but be careful what you wish for. When will we actually win it again? Heck if I know. |

I think this team has multiple Sbs in us the next 6 years, especially if Reese keeps drafting the way he does and we stay reasonably healthy(I know most of us bitch about Eli,but lets pray that we don't have to go 8 games or more with David Carr or someone, because then we would get to see what Jerry would do with a top 10 pick) |

Ole David Carr will be leading the NY Giants to many Super Bowls. (I kid, I kid). Just hope that Chris Palmer isn't given the reins of the offense if Gilbride leaves. While in Houston, he was certainly less than stellar in many outings. I think another Super Bowl is possible within the next 2-3 years. As mentioned before, the Giants will need to find an effective replacement to Burress and ensure that the spot vacated by Toomer is properly taken care of. A little more offensive line depth at the tackle position wouldn't hurt either as we don't really want to see a Bob Whitfield or Kevin Boothe on the field for extended stretches of time. In addition to this, the back seven needs to work on its tackling a little bit. Need a little more speed/coverage ability out of some of the linebackers (enough so that they don't look silly). Gotta see if Osi is going to return to pre-injuy form and figure out what exactly the plan is with Kiwi. Edited by Hadron, Jan 20 2009, 10:09 AM.

thats because he had David Carr as his starting qube behind a horrible O line. Bill Walsh would have looked like he was clueless with that set up. Palmer did a great job in Jacksonville |

You keep telling yourself that Palmer is a 'great' OC. I'd like to hear you after a year of him calling the plays in NY. Next you'll be telling me that Mike Sherman was a great coach in Green Bay and wasn't riding the coat tails of Brett Favre/Ahman Green. |

Building one of the best O-lines the following year? Wtf are you talking about? It's been the same O-line for the past 2-3 years...nothing changed before, during, or after the SB win. And I'm curious how exactly he 'built' one of the best offenses in the league the following year. Basically all the players were also already on the roster, many of whom were there for quite a while at that (read: Eli for 3-4 years, Toomer FOREVER, Jacobs for a few years, etc). You're making it sound like the following year this guy became some offensive genius or mastermind and scouted and signed a ton of free agents which made us go from shit to glory. We didn't. We went from SB champs to a team that *looked* like it had the offense and everything to repeat. But it didn't turn out that way, mainly because ONE, just one of the reasons was that our offensive coordinator can't pull the right strings. Oh and FYI: People might take you seriously around here if you weren't such a sarcastic dick all the time. Just sayin'. |
