No surgery for New York Giants' Tuck by Mike Garafolo/The Star-Ledger Monday January 12, 2009, 11:15 AM It's baggie day at Giants Stadium, which means the focus has quickly shifted to the players that are leaving (James Butler?), the ones that are perhaps coming back (Plaxico Burress?) and the ones that are hurt and could need surgery. In the case of DE Justin Tuck (lower leg), he won't be going under the knife - at least not yet. "If I can play with it, I don't need to get anything done," Tuck said. Asked why he wouldn't undergo surgery, he quickly replied, "Because I don't like getting cut up." Okay, but what is "it?" In other words, what's Tuck's injury that's been described by the team as a "lower leg" ailment? "I've got a few injuries," Tuck said. "I can't talk about injuries. You know that." Tuck said it was a combination of problems that resulted in the team's calling his injury a "lower leg" issue. Asked if his injured knee was the worst injury, Tuck merely smiled and said, "Maybe." When the reporter followed up by asking if that's the part of the body that might need surgery, Tuck shot back, "Nope." Guess Tom Coughlin's rule of no talk about injuries still applies when the season is over. "I'm not a doctor and I couldn't even quote you the way they categorized the injury," Coughlin said. "It's painful, but it will take some time. One of the things we say to the players in that last meeting is if there are some surgeries to be done, they need to be done right away. But I don't think this is a surgical procedure. They expect with time he'll be okay." MG |

i suggest surgery.. i admire him saying he doesn't want the surgery, but it's another thing that'll cost him next season if he gets seriously hurt. he has balls right now, but if he gets hurt his balls shrink. imo. get the damn surgery. Edited by Eli_Manning_10, Jan 12 2009, 01:46 PM.

Well, if they can't really define it, then what the hell should he go under the knife for? |

I think another question about Tuck was why in the world he would say prior to the game, to a National TV reporter, to paraphrase, "I'm concerned about this game and that we lost momentum during the bye-week." Is there not a coaching issue there for your star player to feel that way - and to feel so strongly that he says it to a person covering the game? I found that curious. Maybe it's nothing, but I wouldn't want my star defensive player to have a "concerned" attitude just prior to a Divisional Playoff game. |

I don't think it's that "they" can't define it - I think Coughlin can't (or he's saying he can't) & Tuck won't. But I'm with ya Blue..... we can't vote for surgery as outsiders not knowing what the issue is in the first place! If we knew what it was, then we could weigh in our uneducated, unsolicited opinions.

Of course it is, but we need to know what we're voting on & giving opinions on! lol (Well, some of us like to. Those that are always right & everyone else is wrong obviously don't need to know what is going on before they give their opinion.... it'll be right anyway.) What the hell could be wrong with his lower leg? That's rather vague. Perhaps a muscle tear or something? Maybe they're thinking it's a tear they need to sew up? Give us a LITTLE something to go on besides "lower leg"..... the lower leg is not that small..... |

Bone spurs in foot bothered New York Giants' Justin Tuck for months by Mike Garafolo/The Star-Ledger Monday January 12, 2009, 8:03 PM Justin Tuck said last week that he was playing through seven injuries. Monday, despite the fact the Giants' season is over, Tuck still wouldn't reveal any of them. But someone informed of Tuck's injuries said the fourth-year defensive end was bothered by bone spurs in one of his feet over the past few months. The person, who requested anonymity because of Tuck's refusal to talk specifics, said the spurs are related to a Lisfranc sprain that cut his 2006 season short after only six games. The person also said Tuck had the option of undergoing surgery or allowing the inflammation from the spurs to subside. Tuck did say he declined surgery, though he refused to say on which part of his body it would have been performed. "If I can play with it, I don't need to get anything done," Tuck said. Asked why he wouldn't undergo surgery, he quickly replied, "Because I don't like getting cut up." In addition to the bone spurs, Tuck played with an unspecified knee injury. When asked if that was the worst of his ailments, he merely replied, "Maybe." Tuck also said the team listed him as having a "lower leg" issue on the injury report because "that part of it was a combination of things where they really didn't have it diagnosed as one." |
