If Hadron's ill-advised post was to infer that we need help at receiver...that was ground-breaking.

In all seriousness, I think it's obvious that Eli doesn't make players around him better and needs a receiver like Plaxico where he can throw up the Eli Special and the receiver will come down with it. We may indeed be better served taking a WR with our first pick and signing a LB like Karlos Dansby.

Maybe Kenny Britt would fit the bill.

Wow. I read one page in this thread and I'm appalled. You guys are seriously putting that much blame on Manning? I agree, his throws at first weren't that great, but it was windy as fuck, near 30mph, and it's not like he didn't hit a few guys here and there (read: great pass to Boss on the near sidelines for about 20 yards).

What was wrong with this game, in order of what hurt us:

1- Stupid penalties -- We killed ourselves. Some of them weren't our fault, but we also got some breaks too, so there's no one to blame but us.

2- Play calling -- On both sides, our play calls sucked. For a guy who used to be on Philly's squad, Spagnulo certainly wasn't prepared. There is NO excuse for the 3 pts we just basically handed the Eagles in the last 1:30 of the first half. Why the HELL would you go into prevent defense where you're giving the opposing WR's fucking 10 yard cushions on every play?! Holy christ that is so aggravating. On the offensive side, again, I don't see how Gilbridge still has a job with us next year. His play calling fucking blows. How do you take a 3rd down play and do a direct snap to your RB when you NEED only 3 yards for a game deciding 1st down?

3- Special teams -- all around sucked. We have one of the worst kick return defenses in the league. We can't cover ANYONE. All teams get to at least the 25 or 30 yard line every return, most of the times even more than that.

4- Quarterback -- he needed to command the offense more than he did, no spectacular last minute drives like we've seen from him, and certainly not even great passes on 3rd downs. We couldn't move the chains very well at all. And of course, his INT which was the only real reason Philly had any TDs at all for most of the game wihch gave them the ball at the 20 yard line was horrible.

5- Kicker -- Carney was great all season, and only really missed one FG (2 were blocked) which was his last of the regular season, but when we needed him most, he missed two pretty big ones that could've changed the outlook of the game. That's not why we lost, but damn, it certainly would've changed the momentum and the perspective.

I don't really know what to say. Our running game was pretty good, Jacobs had some decent runs, but there wasn't anything explosive for 30-40 yards from any of our 3 guys. Bradshaw I don't think even got any snaps, did he? Beyond that, I think just our play calling wasn't good enough, we were so predictable. Oh, and WTF happened to our pass rush? This is what also makes me think that we weren't as prepared coaching wise (read: Spagnuolo) as the other side. We had 0, ZERO sacks against the Eagles in three games this season. The rest of the league? FORTY-TWO! That tells you something right there. They had our number, and when you give any quarterback, especially someone who can scramble a bit and is a seasoned vet like McNabb the time to sit in the pocket and just wait until 7-10 seconds until someone gets open, chances are they're going to hit a receiver.

In summation, I'm greatly disappointed in the way we came out after a bye week. I look forward to APril and seeing who we draft, we're going to have a late pick but I hope we can get a talented and hopefully big wide receiver that can be another target for Manning. Aside from that, I hope we can lock up Jacobs and Ward since they're going to be FA's this off-season -- should be able to see we'll have money freed up from Plax.

It was a fun ride, and it's hard to repeat, so I think we have a lot to be proud of looking back on the regular a season, we just have to learn from our mistakes and we'll be back hopefully stonger in August.

May have started my 'Plaxico' rant back on page 4-5 while knocking our WR's.

I must have missed that. But fact is, he wasn't there so it had nothing to do with today. To say that he was the reason we lost this game is ridiculous. You're better than that. He was a good player, but it's done. Go visit him in prison. lol

The funny thing is, remember ALL OF US talking about our "stacked WR core" prior to the season? Did everybody shit the bed because Plaxico shot himself or maybe, just mayyyyybe the quarterback didn't hit some open receivers along the way?

Either way, like I said...he needs more help at receiver. There's little doubt about that.

Plaxico hid a lot of the faults of Eli, Gilbride and the rest of the WR corp.

Despite the love affair with Toomer around here, he's toast. Great career in NY? Of course. A starter still? For a lot of teams in the league? No.
Is basically what I was getting at earlier.

While not a direct reason for our 'loss' to day, his absence has displayed the weakness of several parts of the offensive.

I also think that they are also all kinda young.
We are in a weird spot at WR.
Hixon is only 23 and while he showed a lot of promise,I don't know if he can be a true #1
Smith is a slot #2/3 reciever, nothing more,an Ike Hilliard type.
Moss...??????Have no idea why he wasn't used, its not like he didn't produce when he was on the field. He would be a perfect slot WR like Welker.......
MAnningham.........?????????
And Toomer looks to be aging in from of our eyes
We basicly went into this game with a bunch of borderline #2/3 recievers.......in hindsight we should never have overhyped these players
If anything I think we go out and get Eli a Stud WR,whether it be Boldin,TJ Houchmendazah(sp),
Hell,if anyone watched the Chargers all year,Vincent Jackson I think is a FA,he has nice size and speed.
Because we do have youth at the position

Or we can do the Nazi board plan and trade both our #2's,our #3,next years 2 and Bradshaw to move up and draft Crabtree :screwy:

Ah, I didn't see that at all. I don't think I read through the entire thread. I wanted to start bitching and moaning as soon as possible.
