Spags is a goner............we all might as well get used to it. That handshake type of deal isn't as hot as it was this time a year ago. Look how hot Garrett was in Dallas only a year ago. Not only will he not get the Cowboys HC job he may be out the door all together down there. I can't recall the gentlemans name at the moment (sorry) but the guy in waiting in Indy might not get their HC job next season because I heard on the radio this afternoon that Dungy is now having second thoughts about retiring. Spagnuolo holds all the cards right now.........might as well give him the keys to the Brinks truck. What happens if for some reason the Giants crap out in 2009? Hence he'll never be hotter than right now. He's got to go. |

Jim Caldwell. I agree with you though Gene, one season can change everything. At the same time though, you have to give some serious consideration to any position that you might be interviewing for. Some owners are more demanding than others. Owners/front office, staff, players currently on the roster, draft position, expectations, etc etc. Edited by Hadron, Dec 30 2008, 11:49 PM.

I agree with Gene, he's gone. The only small chance that he'll stay is that he's the highest paid assistant and if a team doesn't want to give him a big enough contract (since he's never been a HC) where it wouldn't make sense to make a move to earn "x" amount more. I don't see that happening though. I think he probably wants to take the next step in his career and the increase in pay will be somewhat secondary. The fact that he wouldn't have to uproot his family if he goes to the Jets will hurt us. I'm just hoping the Jets fall in love Shanahan. |

The Denver Broncos have begun their search to fill the position opened by the firing of Mike Shanahan. FOXSports.com has learned that the Broncos will have an informal interview Saturday in New York with Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. On Monday, they're scheduled to interview newly named Buccaneers defensive coordinator Raheem Morris. Spagnuolo is having dinner with the Broncos brass but is not expected to go through a full grueling interview due to time constraints from previously committed interviews as well as the Giants playoff run. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/9016454/Broncos-will-meet-with-Spagnuolo,-Morris |

Denver has to be the prime coaching spot this off season. Franchise QB? Check. Good WRs? Check. Any RB can run behind that line? Check. A half decent defense that can make some noise when healthy? Check. Make a few tweaks to that defensive roster and insert a better scheme? That's a dangerous team given the way that the Bronco offense can score. Not only that, find a RB who can stay healthy and it takes even more pressure off that Bronco defense to score 80 points a game. |

Goddamit... and rumor has it he DIDN'T impress the Jets during their chat. And add in that Stoops is like "What? Broncos? Uh, no."... I don't like it. |

The Jets have a new front-runner in their search for a head coach. Jets owner Woody Johnson and general manager Mike Tannenbaum met with Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan for five hours Sunday in Baltimore and the two sides hit it off in a big way, according to a person with knowledge of the meeting. That person spoke on the condition of anonymity because he's not authorized to speak for Ryan or the Jets. Ryan, whose 3-4 defense has forced eight turnovers in two postseason games and ranked second in the NFL this past season, also interviewed with the Rams Sunday. He's the eighth candidate interviewed by the Jets. blah blah blah Going with Ryan instead of Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo makes sense because the Ravens play a 3-4 scheme and the Jets won't have to change their defense. http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2009/01/baltimore_ravens_rex_ryan_new.html Take it as you will. Yesterday, two articles came out, re: the Jets situation, one read that this guy was the new front-runner and another guy leading the pack of choices.
